We have been to Vidanta resorts many many times but not for the last eight years. In those years life has changed, my husband is now 87 and can walk but shuffles slowly. On vacations we use a travel wheelchair that has the small wheels and it collapses if we have to carry or put it in a cart or van.

Have any of you navigated Vidanta Riviera Maya with a family member in a wheelchair? I cant recall if the Transportation Trams had a ramp up and spot for a chair or if we would have to have my husband stand up, step up to sit while we collapse his chair and haul it. Cant remember if Beach Club has a ramp or steps from entrance. I know we can manage the elevated boardwalks pushing his chair but cant recall if there are steps up to access the pathways. I know there are elevators to the restaurants and the condo access is not an issue. Just cant recall how we would be able to get around from section to section.

Appreciate input from any of you who live with Handicapped Accessibility to give us any tips or overviews. THANK YOU SO MUCH.

Susan Maria

They do have some Handicap accessible trams that will come to the entrance of your building. I think they have a place to store the wheelchair on the tram.

Not handicapped myself but all the areas and the beach club had wheel chair accessible ramps when I was there 2.5 years ago. The GL units all had elevators to get to higher floors (I did not test out the non-GL units but I anticipate they will be the same). Since he can stand up and climb a Tram and the wheel chair is collapsible, I believe you will be fine.
Finally, you can always call them before ypu book to make sure there will be no issues.
Enjoy!

If you're still looking for info... I haven't been to Vidanta Riviera Maya, but I have been to the one in Puerto Vallarta and can give input on that. I rented a mobility scooter last time we were there since I can't walk very far. Walkways and facilities are scooter friendly, although occasionally I had to look around for the right path to take. I was able to get around easily wherever I wanted to go. The restaurants, stores, etc. had plenty of space for me to get around on the scooter. They have wheelchair friendly shuttles that attendants can call and those were pretty quick to arrive when needed (just ask an attendant at any shuttle stop). With the scooter, I was able to ride it directly onto the shuttle without getting off (using their ramps). I was even able to take the scooter onto their aerial tram with no problem. I think the entire facility is designed to be friendly to mobility devices. Since a wheelchair is smaller than a scooter, it should work fine as far as size. If you need more mobility, consider renting a scooter... guest services can arrange one for you and they bring it right to the room. I am assuming that the Riviera Maya property is similar in its policies and design, but check in advance if you have questions. For reference, I did tip the shuttle attendants and drivers who provided assistance.
