We are on our annual trip to Vidanta World. Decided to do an update, here in Nuevo Vallarta. We were presented an “opportunity“ to buy in to the new Grand Legacy units. As usual, I felt there was little truth in what was being sold. Price went from $700,000+ to $50,000. Then down to $29,000 for modified sale. Our 10 yr contract is on its 9th year. We weren’t sure about renewing even the residence weeks, let alone the registered weeks, by doing another contract.
The only thing that caught my interest was the supposed ability to sell the Grand Legacy weeks. Supposedly they would be like the Punta units and actually have some resale value (100 yr agreement, with 20 yr renewal) and would not have prohibitive sales fees. I was ready to leave, and didn’t want to encourage the closers, so I didn’t ask for more of an explanation. Just curious if anyone here has actually looked into the reality of reselling these weeks/units? I imagine there is a catch. There always is.. Ha We will be here for 5 more days, I’m sure if I got back in touch with our new sales guy they’d give us the same offer.
My second question is, if we renew by paying the X2 maintenance fees, for just the residence weeks, and go from 12 month reservation window to 10 month reservation window, will we still be able to get in?
The third question is, has anyone been to Mazatlan recently? What’s it like? Is it safe? We’ve never been there. We like the Vidanta property near Cabo (Not East Cape or whatever it is). Kind of hoping Mazatlan is is like that…
Thx!

Mazatlan is a bit out of the way (restaurants, etc) and a rinky dink operation compared to NV or RM. Also doesn’t compare to Vidanta in San Jose del Cabo which is close to many restaurants and town of San Jose.

Thank you. I believe the Vidanta property down in Puerto Vallarta is also all GM. If we can’t get in to the Cabo location, we will try there. I don’t mind a rinky dink operation, if it’s safe, clean, and I can get to some decent restaurants. Sounds like Mazatlan is a bit isolated. I’ve just never met anyone that’s been there.

The Cabo San Jose location is Grand Mayan and very nice, next door to Cabo Azul. If you mean the Vidanta property in Puerto Vallarta, that is all Mayan Palace, not GM. We stayed in two Pueblo Bonito resorts in Mazatlan a few years ago and felt very safe.

We stayed at the Cabo San Jose Vidanta location last year, and really liked it. I did not realize the PV location at the marina was MP only. I imagine they’d be alright. I guess it depends on the condition of the rooms. I did read some trip advisor reviews about the Mazatlan Vidanta property that weren’t very positive. I think we will stay away from there. Plus, it sounds like it’s pretty far from restaurants.
Thanks for the heads up.

I find it interesting that if you go to Vidanta.com and look at their destinations tab for their list of resort destinations, Mazatlan is not listed. Things that make you go.....hmmm?

It's been a while since we stayed at the Vidanta property in Mazatlan. It's had a nice beach and was close enough to walk to the Emerald Bay restaurants. Our room was nice but we left because of the room assignment view as exchangers and used bonus time at the VI Mazatlan Tores not to far south of the Mayan Palace.

Vidanta Nuevo Vallarta is much nicer in every way.
