Thought I would alert Verizon email users who are traveling outside the country that your email may be inaccessible, at least from a computer (I don't have it on my phone). I have had this happen 3 times in the last 6 months, in St. Maarten and the UK. The sad thing is that they don't tell you why the webpages jump from 'residential' to 'wireless', nor do they tell you what the problem is. The webpage just tells you they don't know who you are. I have been on the phone with them from overseas for hours trying to access my email and even the representatives don't seem to know. After speaking with several different reps, one finally told me they became aware of the problem in May and are working on a fix.......I can't believe that a company as big as Verizon would have this issue. In a recent conversation I asked 'you mean I can't get my emails for a month' and was told 'sorry, that is correct.' To get around it, you have to login into your account before you leave the US and indicate a forwarding email address that actually works. Another agent told me that periodically you will get in from overseas but it's not worth taking a chance. In Scotland I did go to a library computer which allowed me in so I had that short window that gave me the chance to indicate a forwarding address. In St. Maarten it did not work in two different resorts but did work in a third one. I find this totally unacceptable.

A workaround for this is to get a GMail account and configure it to pull in your Verizon email into your GMail account. You can configure it to just pull a copy and leave your email in your Verizon account so you don't need to change anything with your existing email. Then you can just use GMail when you are traveling to access all of your email.

To do this, you go into GMail -> Settings ->Accounts and Import. You will need the POP3 information from your Verizon account to set this up. The help page in GMail for this feature is very helpful.

It sounds as if there is a problem with Verizon's website. If you know your password, then you can probably use Mail2web.com. When I worked in a computer lab, I used it as a workaround for many people who were having problems. Works regardless of who your provider is.

Thanks for the suggestion but I have used mail2web in the past so I tried it and it still would not access my emails. It just timed out.
