Obviously this is one of those areas where YEWV but if you are a current Verizon customer you should check out the new data, text and calling plans Verizon introduced this week. In some cases, it may save you money and in other cases, it may offer additional services for the same price.

In my case, the addition of coverage into Canada meant I do NOT need to activate Travel Pass.

Bottom line: as with all cellular plans, to should periodically review your options to ensure the best fit at the lowest price for your needs.

I had Travel Pass when in Cancun this past March.. Last year it was $2 per day. This year $5 per day. After thinking it through, I should have gone with No Plan...I don't use cell often, when vacationing, so I'm better off using 50 cents per text to send and 5 cents to receive..99 cents per min to call...(Very rarely call). I checked and for us it's almost break even with our current plan being less. That is unless we travel to Canada or Mexico. Since our daughter is no longer in school in Canada and we have no plans to travel to Mexico, I'm sticking with what we have now.

After a period of use, I can confirm the data throttling at 15GB (on the mid level plan) when using your phone as a hot spot is very real and noticeable.

I just used Travel Pass in Canada and it was a huge pain. I have a pay as you go plan, and I had to use customer service to activate Travel Pass, and then my phone was constantly telling me that I needed to change my settings AGAIN to allow roaming, which could add huge costs. Even though the rep had assured me that it would only be $5 per day...when your phone is noodging you six times a day, it makes you nervous.

This was with Verizon? I've never had an issue with getting it activated.

This was the first time I've had Verizon in Canada. I used to have T-Mobile and they just sent a text that said "Welcome to Canada, everything's included!"

Well I always get a message when I enter Canada AND use voice or text.
