Venting about East coast weather!

Just got back from York Maine; have never experienced a solid week of terrible weather like the rain, low temps and gray clouds last week. I work all year and this is it........card playing, DVD watching and dragging a blanket to and from the beach in a vain search for sun? And to the SEAGULL who did his doody on my leg and blanket? Thanks, pal, you capped off a truly unforgettable week!

Anyone else need to vent?

Aw come on.. a bad weather vacation week is always better than a stressful work week..
I learned a long time ago to accept this..I too have spent several vacations in the rain and bad weather..and then I thought..
it truly slowed me down to rest and do things I would not have done if the weather was better..so..in some way..the powers from above wanted you to Sloowwww down and truly rest..
We can't control the weather, but we can control how we react..
I just hope you were able to enjoy the time away...and best of luck on your next vacation week choice.

If you wanted a warm, beach vacation, you should have exchanged to Ft Lauderdale.

Yup, it's been one rainy summer. I'd like to see the sun just a little more.

But I'm heading to Sedona soon so even if it continues to rain at home, I'll be seeing sunshine.

I hate bad weather vacations. I know, I know - I should be happy to be able to vacation.

I try to choose safe places. I like Aruba because it's out of the hurricane belt!

Some of us would pay for rain!!!

In North Carolina we are in year 2 of a terrible drought. My creek is dry, the woods are drying up, it's terrible.

It's going to rain most of this week too. Does not even feel like summer or August.

Sorry you did not have better weather. Luckily there are nice walking around towns in Maine. We went to southern Maine 3 weekends ago and as we went to Marginal Beach in Ogunquit there was a terrible lightening storm. No beach all weekend but we had a great time and ate at Golden Rod in York. Had not been to York since the old Benson Wild Animal Farm days.

We have only had 1 rainy vacation in Ft Lauderdale a few years ago. Only 1 sunny day all week the rest of the week it poured and not just the typical 4pm sprinkle

Just back from 2 weeks at Smuggs--week 1 was "okay-ish" got a little pool time in, but week 2 was a washout--rained every day, but what are you going to do? I read a lot, shopped a lot, and persuaded my daughter to take a look at a couple of colleges. It's what you make of it. Now at home, it's more of the same, but add in chores like laundry, grocery shopping, cleaning and I think I'd prefer to be on vacation in the rain!

Soggy New England

We were in Wolfeboro, NH at the Windrifter for two weeks -- July 20 to August 3, and the weather was miserable. Still, we had a wonderful time.

The absolute worst day was July 24th, when the tornado struck just a few miles from us. The storm literally thundered down Wolfeboro Bay, but we didn't know how bad it was until we turned on the TV a bit later. The devastation was awful and a woman died shielding her grandchild as the tornado destroyed their home.

Last Thursday, another torrential downpour flooded Merideth and The Weirs. the ground could not take any more water and the boardwalk and the train tracks at The Weirs were washed away. A child was drowned in Ashland when her family's car was washed away.

When I think about all that so many people lost in those storms, I really can't gripe about a rainy vacation.

We would rather be in Wolfeboro in the rain than a lot of other places in the sun.

All this bad weather makes me enjoy the 2 weeks I did have in Cabo San Lucas. 1 day with some showers over the course of 2 weeks. And that's their rainy season. Makes me wish I could have stayed. Well looking forward to Disney in Oct, HHI over winter break , and Cancun president's week.

Well maybe you should have come to the Southwest. Its been in the low 100's (102º to 107º) with plenty of sunshine every day. And humidity is usually in the single digits...

I was stuck at O'Hare with my 12 year old daughter for 2 full days because of the crazy Northeast Thunderstorms. It was a marathon of cancellations and rebookings. I'm in New Jersey now though and the weather is gorgeous!

We are in Maine with a wonderful daughter, son-in-law and two precious little ones. It may be cold and rainy but our hearts are so full of warmth that we haven't noticed. Actually, it was 95 with a heat index of 105 when we left SC so we have noticed and love the cool weather. The sleep with rain falling last night was heavenly. I can say this since I will be back in the HHI area Friday. We have learned that the weather doesn't adjust to us so we have to adjust to it.

When I moved from MA to MN, I was warned about the weather. It has been difficult to give up hot and humid summers where it rains almost constantly in favor of 84 degree low humidity weather with constant sunshine, but I am trying to make the best of it.

Rethinking choice for vacations...

Well, if it's sun I want then I'll have to take fellow TUGGERS advice and head to places like Cabo, Aruba and Florida. I'll save quick day trips to Maine for when I know the weather is good. I'd go back to Maui in a heartbeat if I had my choice of sun-filled places, but we can't afford that in the near future.

And to the great state of Maine...thanks for the lobsters, blueberry pie, wild surf along the rocky coast and for years of great family fun from York to Bar Harbor!

Sorry about the rain...I hate rain...but boy oh boy I sure could be having some fun with some Maine lobster!!!!! Yum!

Whatever fell on the east coast had to be pretty bad. I was in Columbus on Sunday trying to fly home to Philly and everything was shut down from JFK to Charlotte. If it hadn't been for my status with the airline it would have been sometime late on Monday before I got a flight back.

I think that if weather is a major factor, we should pick weather areas we want, Hawaii, California, Southwest in general for warm sunny weather, coastal Oregon, San Francisco, Portland, Seattle for cooler weather etc. I might not have know Maine or New Hampshire could be cold and rainy, so that is good news for me. So if I don't have my heart set on sunshine, it would be a nice change for me. Example, I live in a beautiful rural mountain town with sun and pine trees and clean air. A perfect vacation spot, but I live here, so I love vacationing in cities.
