I own two white weeks at Desert Springs. I have been setting the alarm to wake me up early so that I can split and book four res's for Thanksgiving. I do that because Thanksgiving has the highest TDI for my white weeks. IIRC, it is 125 or 130. I am booking at the 13 month point. So far, it has worked, but the inventory gets gobbled up quickly

I'm wondering if I call in at the 13 month plus one week point and do a split and reserve (for instance) one unit the week before Thanksgiving and the other three for the following week - - Thanksgiving week? Then do an owner deposit into ii of the three thanksgiving weeks but temporarily hang onto the week before Thanksgiving. Then after a couple of weeks cancel the single week before Thanksgiving (probably pay a cancellation fee) and then set the alarm to (try to) make the 12 month Thanksgiving reservation. I'm thinking that if I deposit the 3 Thanksgiving weeks into ii and they are confirmed, that it is unlikely that Marriott would try to claw them back when I cancel the week that allowed me to book earlier.

Thoughts?

Thanksgiving and gobbled. Great play on words right there! Good luck!

As long as you wait until you could have booked everything for week 47, you'll be fine changing the week 46 to week 47 if available. You should have a change fee is not enrolled. Whether it's worth paying the fee to change depends on how you plan to use it. For many instant exchanges you would not see the difference.

I’ve done similar in th past without issue but realized Is is unnecessary work for something that will have only a small marginal impact on trade power. If it makes a difference at all.

I did wait till the 12 month mark to cancel and rebook.

I'm wondering if I deposited the higher tdi weeks and cancelled the lower one, if there would be some way that Marriott could "claw" back the deposited units or otherwise make my life miserable in some way.

That hasn't been my experience in the past. This year I booked four units (two lock offs) and did the same thing over Memorial Week. One ressie for the week prior and three for the week of Memorial Week. I just went ahead and deposited them all as is. The one week prior was a studio and I doubt it made any difference on what I could trade with it.

This has not been my experience at least in terms of the week credited to my account. But I always do owner occupy then deposit myself, usually depositing online. What MVC and II do that doesn't affect me is less of a concern but I'm doubting MVC is going to worry about this for trading resorts even if it's something they would do in other situations for high end options. I own a number of weeks and I routinely reserve at 13 months out from the first day I can which means I'm stringing together lock offs and non lock offs to span almost 3 months. I do sometimes change the reservations on the ones I'll exchange and cancel to elect points on others. I also don't worry about which points I use when I make difficult to get reservations but later ask them to group the points by reallocating such that all banked points are grouped and all non banked points that could be later banked are grouped into other reservations. That way if I have to cancel anything ahead of time, I'll cancel the reservations with points I can then bank and extend their life. Or if I had to cancel within 60 days, I can cancel judge which points would expire later. I do realize there is work involved in these changes so I wouldn't want to make trivial changes if I could help it.

There was one report recently of someone ending up with a different deposit credited to their account than they had reserved and deposited to II. I don't recall that ever being reported before. I don't believe the cause was determined but at this point I have to look at it as a one off or else someone did something wrong in the process. Do realize that II can change the trade power on the fly and in reality they often do for both the deposit and the requested options. This is likely done more in our favor as the lead time to a given request is shorter.

Way too much work and expense for what you want to do. I'm pretty confident just being smart in how you reserve on the website you could get your 3 thanksgiving units/weeks reserved and not worry about having to take advantage of the 13 month rule.

Please elaborate. what are you suggesting ? Don't reserve 3 unit for Thanksgiving? Or are you suggesting don't worry about the week prior to thanksgiving?
