Using part of a large combined deposit that's tied up in RCI OGS?

It's a long and winding story as to how we got to this point, so I won't bore you with the details... But our current scenario is that we have multiple weeks in our RCI account that have been combined into one large deposit with an early-2023 expiration. We're hoping to exchange into DVC April/May 2022, and will be setting up an OGS for that soon.

That OGS pretty much locks up that entire combined deposit until it matches, doesn't it? Is there a way to book another week with part of the combined deposit (still leaving enough behind for the DVC exchange) without losing the OGS? I know the second week would have to be something available in open inventory and not a second OGS, but is it doable? Would it require an RCI rep who takes pity on us to do something manually to book the other week and reinstate the OGS with the remainder?

You can list multiple dates/resorts for the single OGS. If one matches, you can immediately start a new search with what is left. The only disadvantage would be the age of the new search would sort of move you to the back of the line. I have never tried to get an agent to reset the new search with the original date, so I can't comment on whether that might be doable. Another option would be, if you have any deposit that isn't tied up in the combined amount, to use it for additional searches. I've done that before when my single deposit was worth enough TPU to pull what I wanted and just leave the combined search going with the original date.

If you book something you have to end the OGS. You can ask an agent to reset up the ongoing search you had and ask for it to be back dated which they may or may not do. That is one of the disadvantages of combining into a single large deposit credit. It is one of the advantages of having an OGS with points because you can do several separate OGS which are not tied together.

This has been a huge issue for me too. It is a serious negative with large combined deposits.
