HI - If I purchased a unit carrying 2011 StarOptions that have not been used, can I make a reservation with them this year, for a week next year? In other words, do the options have to be used in the year of issuance, or does the reservation just need to be made?

Also, if I purchased an every other year carrying XX amount of StarOptions, and wanted to use them early in my issuing year at a resort other than my home, can I call 8 months out, even though the StarOptions haventy been issued yet (sort of like the first scenario).

I hope that makes sense....LOL

2011 Staroptions do have to be used in 2011 - or the week can be deposited with Interval International. Starting in 2012, you will be able to roll Staroptions over to the next year.

You can only use them during the use year - but you can make the Resv. 8 mos. before check-in.

If you own an every-other-year even-year week, with usage in 2012, you can make a reservation for a week in 2012, but not 2011, at 8 mos. out from check-in.

So today, you can make a reservation for June 11, 2012 at the latest (well not really because you have to check-in on Fri.-Sat.-Sun., so you could make a Resv. for the closest weekend before June 11.)

Unless you bank the staroptions for the next year (which only top elite members can do this year), you have to use the staroptions on the year they are available. I believe that is going to change starting next year, when everybody will be able to bank their staroptions for the following year.

You can make a reservation for next year using next year options, even if they have not been issued yet. To clarify this, you could for instance call in May 2012 to make a reservation for January 2013 using your year 2013 options.

Thanks Denise and Pedro - I was more concerned about calling 8 months ahead before I was issued the SO's.

So like both of you gave examples of reserving now for 2012 (assuming it was an Even EOY), would I have had to pay the 2012 1/2 MF's in advance, or do they cancel your reservation if you fail to pay on 1/1/12 when they are due.

I guess if I go ahead with this purchase I could just bank in II...but thats kinda a bummer...but the week is free so I guess no harm no foul.

You pay the maintenance fee at the regular time - around the first of the year. You do not have to pay to make your Resv., but they will cancel your Resv. if you don't pay.

What resort is it?

Unit size?

Season?

Vistana Village Bella 2BR Platinum Season - 81K So's

What are your goals with this week?

-use as a home resort most of the time
-use as a Staroption trader most of the time
-Use as a II trader most of the time

These are the maintenance fees:
Sheraton Vistana Villages
Bella - 2Bdm. EOY - $510.50
Bella - 2 Bdm. - $1,021

For an every-other-year deed, you pay half the MF + $30 every year, but you only have usage every-other-year.

Plus every year you pay the SVN membership fee - about $119.

To use as a StarOption trader although we may use for the Disney vacation occasionally, but its an expensive option when there is so much out there rental wise for less. The pool does look fun for the kids though! :cheer:

We really hope to grab some off-season weeks in HRA or WSJ, and reading I know the diligence that will require (calling at 8 mo, being flexible, etc...) which I have no problem doing. But worse come to worse, we will travel to the other beautiful resorts Starwood has to offer (Mexico, Arizona, etc...)

And yes, the SVN fee, but that will offset our II membership so its not that much of an additional expense.
