I was able to experience Sunset Cove in Marco Island using my HGVC points. Surprised how nice it is considering it is in the middle of town next to a supermarket. I would definitely go to Sunset again.

Curious, why did Sunset Cove leave HGVC?
Did the HOA decided to change affiliation?
Did the HGVC contract end with the developer and they decided to go to Holiday Inn?
Did HGVC sell their interest to Holiday Inn?
another reason?

Not sure eggsactly, but connecting the dots, I'd say it's becuz:
Summer Bay bought Sunset Cove's unsold inventory in 2009.
They threw their weight around to take over management.

In 2011, they then sold their interest to Orange Lake Holdings.
One of OLH subsidiaries is... Holiday Inn Club Vacations.

Looks like the resort was bought out by Summer Bay Resorts. This is from a thread back in 2009:

Update - there goes the neighborhood

Got a call today from Summer Bay resort sales rep (after my email inquiry to Sunset Cove regarding interest in buying a new unit from the developer and for information regarding the HGVC affiliation). The rep told me that the sunset cove got purchased by the Summer Bay resorts (Yuk!) and exclusively trades with the registry collection. He was unable to comment on what happens to existing owners who already purchased with HGVC value in mind and he was unable to comment on if this benefit (HGVC) will be available to resale owners or not. He will get back to me with more information on this. I am not holding my breath! He was trained to talk about "registry collection" and not much else...

Sounds like this was before Summer Bay switched over to HIVC.

Summer Bay (now Exploria) is independent of HIVC.
In 2011, they sold their Sunset Cove property (unsold TS's) to Orange Lake Holdings.
OLH, as the parent company of HIVC, installed HIVC as managers.
