We presently have two contracts with October use years. In the past when I added a January and July contract (which I no longer own) Wyndham eventually aligned those contracts to October.

I am in the process of buying a new contract with a January use year. Does Wyndham now make all contracts January when you add a new contract with a January use year or are they still aligning to the latest use year in the account?

Call ownership transfers and request the use year you want. I’ve never had a problem getting the use year I want, but others have. Then again, I call weekly just to remind ownership transfers.

I think it can also depend on the type of contract. If it is a converted fixed week to points, I am pretty sure the contract year has to remain Jan-Dec. In which case you risk the chance Wyndham might realign your other use year to Jan-Dec to match it. If it’s a UDI contract, then probably no problem asking them to align it with your current use year if that’s what you want.

I believe all the every other year ones are Jan-Dec, too, and cannot be changed.

My first contract was July 1 and both resales I've added were Jan 1 which were both moved or realigned to my original July 1 use year

A couple of pieces here, but reliable information if you put it all together.

When Wyndham aligned everything back in 2013, they defaulted to the latest quarter. So anyone with Jan-Dec, all contracts by default would have been aligned to Jan-Dec. But they did say (if you called) that you could pick your use year. Grammerhero's comments support that (they seem to still honor requests). Unless you end up in one of the non-negotiable situations - such as converted weeks or every other year - then you must align to Jan-Dec (shorts and Eric B's comments).

Anyone purchasing additional resale or resale contracts needs to be cognizant of the rules or could end up being realigned (without prorated points). Know the rules, don't buy contracts that will mess up what you have, and make the calls necessary to preserve your use year.

For your reading pleasure, I pasted a copy of letter sent to owners (for me it was dated Feb 25, 2013). Caveat, even though I received this letter, my account was not realigned until several years later (I had an improperly converted contract (converted points with a September use year) that took Wyndham a couple years to figure out before they could align me. Alright, one more whine - by which time they would no longer honor the prorated points)).

The rule is that Wyndham makes the rules.

The other problem is there isn't any consistency as to when they will align the points. It could happen when they are adding the points to your account or they could miss it and it could happen 6 months or a year later or anytime in between reeking havoc on your plans at an unexpected moment. It might be best to call and try to get it aligned when it comes in so at least you will know when to expect it.

You nailed it with both your comment on the problem and advice.

In May of 2017 when Voyager was coming I dragged my feet until about a week beforehand on getting registered with the new website because I knew we would have our account realigned. Except for one EOY that had an April use year everything else had a July 1 use year. They explained that with the new system all EOYs had to have a January 1 use year and that they would be making the rest of our account January 1 also. I wasn't happy because it was going to mess me up with how many points we had for the rest of the year but they did a one time point adjustment so we didn't come out of it too badly.

Earlier this year I bought a small contract that had a July 1 use year. About a month or two after it was in our account I was talking to owner care about a reservation I was trying to make that wouldn't upgrade even though it should have. The person went out of her way to take care of me and I really appreciated it so before we were done I mentioned that I now had something else in my account with a different use year. I told her that if they were going to eventually realign it I would rather they do it now when I knew what was coming than be inconvenienced at a later time. She was so pleased that I was volunteering to have her do it that she gave us a point adjustment. Because the contract was only 64k points the one time point adjustment wasn't very many points but I was happy to get those points.

Glad to hear that Wyndham did the right thing and prorated. No matter how small the points total was they are yours to use.
