I find it odd that the article is trying to tie this to cruises. I guess it garners them a few more clicks? Outside of Sinaloa, where Mazatlan is located, none of these locations appear to be cruise stops for any of the major cruise lines.

Although this is a warning from the US State Department, it seems to be making the news more in the UK. Here is the same story in the Express:

My first warning about Mexico and crime came in the early 70's
Do not go to Tijuana
Sailors and Marines were getting drunk and then the gangs would rob them of their money
Not sure much has changed

I was being sarcastic. The weather has nothing to do with the crime rate, and vice versa.
