So you can pack reasonable amount of chewing gum for self consumption while entering Singapore and no law is broken. People, please get the fact straight.I think so but am not sure. Then DON was absolutely mistaken. It has always been legal to chew gum there. No worries, no need to apologize.Well, all I can tell you is when I worked for the Department of the Navy, one of my co-workers traveled to Singapore frequently and he was a serious gum chewer. The travel department for DON issued guidance for people traveling to Singapore and it stated very clearly that is was illegal to chew gum in public in Singapore. He had a hard time with that because he was used to chewing gum all the time. So, I'm not trying to spread false information and fake "facts." I'm simply relaying what the Department of the Navy issued regarding gum chewing in Singapore. Perhaps you live there and know better. If so, I apologize.

Many people whom I know in Singapore chew gum. These folks usually buy "reasonable" amount of gum when they go out of country to take back. Singapore is culturally westernized so there is no problem with chewing gum, although it is sometimes considered unprofessional to chew gum while at work and it depends on the employer. Thanks for correcting a common misconception. I, too, was under the impression that chewing gum was illegal in Singapore. I guess since you can buy or sell gum in Singapore, perhaps the people just assumed chewing gum was illegal. I assume that chewing gum in Singapore is frowned up by society even if it is legal to do with your own stash. Do you know about the cultural norms for chewing gum in public in Singapore? This is a country I want to visit one day and would not want to break any cultural norms while there.
