We booked a very short stay at Desert Oasis (formerly a Welk property in Cathedral City, Palm Springs area) through WOH. I had decided even tho reviews here indicated it was a bit worn, that it would work for us passing thru there in December. In booking there were some construction warnings and [what should be updated] messages about restaurants being closed, etc. I called the property and was told they were just completing upgrades including adding washer/dryer units to each unit (!) and everything would be wrapped up this week. Jax restaurant should be open as well. Has anyone been there VERY recently to confirm?

The only other Welk property we have stayed at is Northstar, and we always thought it was close to the build quality of other HRC properties. With the heated garage and now, issues with Ellison’s purchase of the Hyatt Regency hotel next to High Sierra, it will probably be our preferred Tahoe trade. Are Welk property upgrades happening as they transition to HRC/HVC?

thanks in advance for you feedback.

We stayed at the Welk Cathedral City. It was a nice enough place. I understand that that it has sinse been upgraded.

I understand that it was originally an apartment complex. I think that most/all units are 1 BR units. It is wood-frame construction and as such the floors are a bit bouncy.

But it was nice enough.

We've also stayed at Welk Northstar. It has great "bones". It was originally built by Hyatt with a number of high end amenities. But under Welk, they had deferred a lot of maintenance. The 10 plus year old carpets were filthy, A/C didn't work, etc. It was bad enough that they gave us a free week plus free dinner. But that is before Hyatt took over. So, perhaps many of these issues were corrected. I'm hoping that is the case because we're booked there next year.
