I'm going out to Oahu from January 5 - 12 and was slated to stay at the Lagooon Towers, but when I called to confirm today they upgraded my reservation to the Grand Waikikian (w/no additional fees). I realize that this is the new property, but is construction complete? This seems like a nice upgrade, but is there anything I'm overlooking? Thanks.

Sounds like they want you to experience the unit and be tempted to buy. The units are beautiful and certainly an upgrade from the Lagoon Towers which will need room renovations soon. If you have the one BR or 2BR you have an upgraded kitchen area and washer/dryer. The only concern is if you have a deluxe (ocean front) or plus (high floor) unit at Lagoon, the view in Waikikian on a low floor may not be as good. Find out how many floors will be open and make you request for a high floor. The side of the Waikikian facing Ala Moana will be noisy on the lower floors.

Considering that GW is about a 50% premium in points over the Lagoon tower consider it a nice perk.

You are very lucky. Let's see if you'll get the daily maid service.

I wish I can stay at the GW next year. When I made my reservation at the end of October for next July, there were zero availability for the GW. I think it was about two weeks afterward that HGVC sent out the email saying they released inventory of GW but then I already booked Waikoloa and reserved tickets.

We just got home from the HHV this morning. We stayed in the Lagoon tower but we were also offered the GW some time ago. they are running behind schedule with the new opening slated for 12-20. There was lots of construction going on and lots of noise. The pool is nearly finished. It has water in it and they are putting the finishing touches on the patios. The restaurant is comming along as well as the pool bar. I will do a trip report soon and try to put pictures of the new pool in it. The lew lagoon is very nice. They demolished the old entrance to the tower yesterday and ripped up the asphalt. Occupancy was way down around 47% in the village. The tropics bar is closed and undergoing renovations. To be finished in April. Sounds like the Hau tree bar will be next. :hi:
