In a recent presentation, we were told we could commit points back to Wyndham for resale to offset maintenance fees. We did not get this far in our hour, but we assumed we would be told it would only be for newly purchased points. Has anyone ever heard/tried this and would it work for points already owned? Is this a real program and if so, what is it called?

It is a real program but it isn't nearly as good as it seems. First you can't use left over points. You have to use future points. So if you know in 2020 you won't be travelling and you don't want to move them forward to 2021 or 2022, it could be an option. The real kicker though is there is a fee and a terrible conversion rate. So let's say you pay $6 per 1000 points ($600 for 100,000 points) and you turn these in to pay your MF's I think the rate might be around $2 per 1000 that they give you plus a $79 fee. So you give them 100,000 points plus $79 and they take off $200 for your MF's. Basically you pay $400 in MF and $79 and get no points that year vs paying $600 and getting 100,000 points to vacation with.

So they aren't lying but it isn't anything you would actually ever want to do. If you really had no use whatsoever for the points it would be better to pay $479 for nothing vs $600 and let the points expire without using them but that isn't a good reason to buy developer points. If you only own resale points it isn't an option but since its a bad option, who cares.

My numbers may be off a bit but it still is a waste and totally tipped to benefit Wyndham. Even with the bad rate if they allowed you to use points that were about to expire it wouldn't be as bad but since it is future points that have more than 12 months life left, I can't ever imagine it being a good option for anyone.

It is a horrible way to use points. Another program Wyndham has implemented to help themselves to your points at a discount.

Its no better then using points for airfare or giving your points to Wndham so they can rent them at a 60-40 split. You know who only gets the 40%? Horrible way to use points if you want the most bang for your buck.

This is all correct if you use the a Wyndham rewards method of converting your points to Wyndham rewards to get the $50 for 10,000 Wyndham rewards points. It’s a $99 fee to convert your Club Wyndham points to Wyndham rewards points. I whole heartedly agree, it’s a terrible return.

You do not have to go through Wyndham rewards to use your points for maintenance fees. Wyndham has long had the program where you can convert your points to maintenance fees. See page 259 of the current directory. You can use this year’s points, however, there is a deadline. You cannot wait until the end of the year to do it, unless you’re VIP Platinum. Like the Wyndham rewards option, it’s a terrible return. It’s .0021 cents per point or $2.10 per 1,000 points. There is no $99 fee, but you do need a reservation transaction credit. If you’re out of those, it’ll cost you $29, because you have to call in to do the conversion. Reservation transaction credits cost $29 over the phone. The OP is better off trying to rent a reservation to a friend or family with those points. Even if they rent it out at a measly $4 per 1,000, it’s a better return then either program.

This is exactly why many VIP members rent out points for less then their cost. Why give points to Wyndham for $2/1000 if a VIP member can rent points to a private party for double what Wyndham is offering @ $4/1000?
