Can anyone give me some details on Halloween Horror Nights? Is it just a bunch of haunted houses with people jumping out to scare you? My kids really want to go, but they are under the recommended age. I'm thinking I might let my 12 year old go, but not sure about the 11 & 9 year old. I'd love some feedback from folks who have been! How scary is it? Are the rides open, too? The Disney Not So Scary Party sold out before we got tickets, so we are looking for other Halloween-themed things to do! Any other ideas are welcome, too! (Don't feel too bad for my kids. I tried to get them to research everything 60 days in advance so I could plan/buy tickets, but they couldn't be bothered with it. Hopefully, this will at least teach them a lesson.)

IMHO, it's pretty hokey -- nice costumes & fake chainsaws.
Your kids would enjoy it, but you may want to have "the talk."

Do some YouTube searches and watch some videos. Media can film inside the houses but regular visitors can't. So watch several videos to get an idea if it is right for you.

I have watched several videos. None of it seemed scary to me which is why I'm considering taking the kids. Or, maybe you just have to be there to feel scared?! IDK, I suppose I'd jump if someone ran behind me and screamed, but I wouldn't be scared. :) I thought I'd ask in case I'm missing something?!

My daughter (9) is always watching the makeup tutorials for all the scary/gory costumes on youtube. I'm not sure a costume alone would scare her. She'd probably critique their makeup. :)

At the last minute, we ended up taking all 3 kids to Halloween Horror Nights. We only walked through 3 houses. Two of them had tolerable wait times, but the 3rd one was over an hour and just not worth it. We spent the rest of the evening riding a few rides. I think "Hokey with nice costumes and fake chainsaws" summed it up nicely. The kids thoroughly enjoyed it though! I think they liked it more since they were technically too young! Our only real issue was the noise level. My 11-year-old has ADHD and very sensitive ears. We anticipated this and brought earplugs, but he lost them in the first 50 feet of entering the park! I got noise notifications on my phone throughout each house we visited. Other than that none of the kids had any issues.
