As of June 4, 2012 United Airlines will no longer have service to Oakland Airport (OAK).

Luckily I heard this on the news this morning as I had a round trip flight on United that originated in Oakland on June 1, with a return on June 4. When I checked the United website there was a note that my return needed to be re-ticketed. They had me coming as far as Denver, and no farther. I called, but I got a very nice rep who was able to book me on a flight from Denver to SFO. If I hadn't heard the news I wonder how long it would have taken me to find out about the change? I'm guessing I may have an email from them in the next day or so.

I know Southwest flew to Oakland (as an alternative to SFO), I wonder if they are expanding there.

Oakland is a huge hub for Southwest. They have one complete terminal there. We usually fly Southwest whenever we can. And Southwest only recently started flying out of SFO. I think they (SW) have far fewer flights out of SFO than OAK.

Southwest and Jet Blue also seem to be cutting routes. Southwest seems to have stopped service from Boston and Manchester NH to Philadelphia and the airfares are now truly ridiculous on US Airways.
