Unit number?

Madge,
Several of the resorts that I visit annually have some units that I want to avoid. So when I find an available exchange, I must put the week on hold, then call and listen to the loooong voice ads, then finally get a VG who understands what I want. (ONLY the unit number) Then I have to insist that they not confirm the week, as they have done in the past. Then I have to immediately check my account to see that they really didn't confirm without my permission. Then, after all that, if the unit is one that I won't exchange into, I have to release the week on hold. THEN, since RCI has created a sham search--to get my money back, I have to go to my account page and cancel the search that I didn't want.
Wouldn't it be much easier for me, and for RCI, if the unit number just showed up online? It shows up for the VGs, so how hard would it be to show me? I've gone through this whole convoluted process twice in the last few days, so it's fresh in my mind.

king1,

Every RCI-affiliated resort may assign units however it wishes, as long as the units have the same bedroom type, occupancy, and kitchen type as those indicated on the RCI Exchange Confirmations. Many resorts have even required that RCI not list any specific unit numbers at all on their confirmations.

Some resorts may entertain requests for specific units and sections and others may not. We do not provide unit information online mainly because we cannot guarantee it. However, this is something we may look to add in future website initiatives. I'll pass along your comments to our technical staff.

In the meantime, be sure to ask a Guide to enter a notation to your search indicating that you have a strong preference for a particular unit/section.

Madge, thank you for passing on king1's commentary, please add mine too. I frequently call for the same reason - particularly when the resort details visible on our screen say "units x, y and z have only bunk beds" or something else which might cause me to confirm or decline, totally based on RCI's explicit unit information. These aren't resorts we visit annually, but usually are resorts we've never been to.

I know that many resorts can't guarantee anything, but I've found that when a unit # is an issue, I can phone the resort once I have the unit #, and ask whether they check exchangers into the unit on the confirmation, and explain my concerns. Some will tell me they'll make every effort to take a request into consideration if made in advance, and suggest how far in advance to call. Others tell me they always check folks into the unit on the confirmation. This will often help me decide whether to confirm. So the more info the better!

Same for square footage, this would be such a wonderful piece of info to add for us to see online. That's another reason I frequently call, depending upon # of travelers, and they always have that at their fingertips too.

Laurie,

The RCI Exchange Confirmation does not guarantee square footage, unit amenities, bed configuration or even the number of bathrooms. Resorts try to keep these things in line with what is presented in the RCI Exchange Confirmation; however, if there is a serious maintenance issue with a unit that has a Jacuzzi tub, the resort must be able to move the confirmed member to another unit that provides the same bedroom type and maximum/private occupancy, even if it doesn't have a Jacuzzi tub.

Resorts usually make every effort to accommodate their guests.
