I was looking at the charts on line and it looks like there is a max of 486 week. Is this correct? What Salary would qualify for that amount? How is it taxed?

We have lots of layoffs going on and I am just trying to get a feel of things.

Thanks

Go to this page to determine your "Base Year" and how to calculate your wages for your "High Quarter". Then go to this page and click on the line that fits for the range for your wages/salary in your High Quarter. The first column (Part A) is your calculated wage/salary and the second column (Part B) is your calculated benefit.

The maximum weekly benefit is $497 - for those with wages/salary (as calculated above) of at least $12,363 in the applicable three months. If you have dependents, your weekly benefit can be increased by up to $8.

Unemployment benefits are taxed for federal income tax purposes just like salary income is.

In PA you have the option to have your Federal taxes deducted from your unemployment check so you don't get a nasty surprise when income tax time rolls around.
