My oldest son just moved to the UK. We're looking for an unusual Christmas gift he might enjoy. He is an adventurous spirit. Has anyone ever experienced this? It's described this way:

"Somewhere between climbing and swimming but certainly exhilarating"!

"Everything you were told never to do as a child by the sea. This is not simply swimming in the sea, climbing on the rocks or cliff jumping. This is a novel mix of exploration, adventure and adrenaline at the level you want it to be - from nervous newbie to extreme exhilaration! Coasteering gives a very different perspective on the stunning Pembrokeshire coastline and is run by Britain’s leading centre of excellence for the sport".

Or, here's another thought I have. It's a 20 min Microlight flight:

Any input, or other suggestions for gifts in the UK would be appreciated. My MIL also wants to get him a Harrods gift certificate. I'm wondering if there's any way we can avoid the foreign transaction fees on a credit card for these items.

If not run properly 'Coasteering' has the potential to be right up there with the most extreme of extreme sports. Any sport which entails scrambling across or up cliffs with wet feet has by its very nature a high risk factor. Much like cliff diving it looks easy when the experts are doing it, but even the experts can get it wrong at times.
I'll admit I'm no adrenalin junkie but I would be far more willing to try a high bungee jump than even low level coasteering.

I sure it's dangerous if not properly led. Do you know anything about the outfit advertising in the link I provided? I would like to know more about their track record of accidents, etc.

I'm also aware of the risk of flying in a two-seat hang-glider type of aircraft and would also check out their safety record.

Based on the limited responses, my posts must be boring

I understand most here probably haven't heard of Coasteering. That's why I provided a link. But, I'm sure most of you have heard of mini-planes (ultralights). What do you think of this as gift idea? Too dangerous?

I'm not answering because I'm a big WIMP and I wouldn't dream of doing either of these things. (Although the ultralight sounds less dangerous than the scary steep-cliffs-and-deep-water thing.)

They sound fun in theory (not to me personally, of course!), but how would you feel if he got hurt?
