UGH! WM locked my Interval International Account (either a BUG or a New process for WM credit shortage)

Just a heads up....

In the past, if your WM account was short credits for an II exchange, WM automatically billed you the difference. It's been that way 20+ years.
Since I was just short 2K, I decided to skip a rental transfer and just have WM billed me (easy peasy). Well, that was a MAJOR mistake!

OMG! I've been on the phone for 2.5 hours with no resolution. I've talked to Interval and WM multiple times today to try to get this resolved

I've never had my WM Interval International account locked before so either this process has changed or this is a BUG.
In any event, if you're short WM credits your Interval account may get locked without any communication from WM (no phone call, no email, no online account indication)
If it's a new process then they put a process in place but didn't provide any training/guidance to Owner Resolution in order to clearly identify what triggered their Interval Lock and how to resolve it.
NOTE: WM will lock your WM RCI account for outstanding fees but I've never experienced that with II.

I talked to Interval three times today. They indicated the following:
  • They can't do anything once the LOCK has been placed by the resort.
  • The resort lock is typically due to some outstanding payment.
  • They can see that the LOCK was placed on Friday, May 1 and that it is associated with my last confirmed exchange in April.
  • They said both of my upcoming 2026 reservation were confirmed on their end and that I won't lose my reservations.

I talked to WM owner resolution three times today.
  • There are no pending payments or notes regarding any outstanding bill.
  • They can only see one Interval exchange processed for 2026 and not the exchange that is associated with the shortage.
  • The last two times while I was placed on hold, I ended up being transferred to the Interval desk for WM owners (no 3 way call).

I am so sorry you are dealing with this. I have no advice, only sympathy for the situation.

Last April there were reports of Interval International possibly having a security breach. The personal data used by phone scammers included the personal information of members of Interval International is why it is thought to be a data breach. It was reported on the II travel hacks Facebook page.

While I doubt this phishing scam has anything to do with the op's exchange it could be why something like being short credits locked the account.

Update... good news to report!

As of yesterday, 7,000 credits were removed from my WM account. I'm still short 2,000 credits however no bill was received yet for the remaining 2k.
As of today, my WM Interval account is no longer blocked and my two confirmed exchanges are still active in my II account history :).

Hopefully I can settle the payment for the outstanding shortage early next week before we leave for our next trip (Alaska Cruise and rail adventure).

I am happy that you had a good outcome. Enjoy your cruise.

Update...All done (called in to make a payment since I wanted to get this resolved before my cruise)

Wasted time talking to 2 WM reps today before I insisted on a transfer to a WM Owner Resolution rep.
The WM Owner Resolution rep had to look up my II exchange details to find their internal note regarding my outstanding charge. He was able to clearly explain the charge (2K credit shortage at $0.157 per credit). He wasn't sure when a billing notification would occur. But confirmed that he could take an online payment and make a note in the system.
