Smart crooks. More profitable than swindling people using timeshare cancellation scams.

Based on what seniors think gold is actually worth, it's more likely they were swindled out of a few hundred bucks worth. "We're billionaires -- if gold hits our target!"

A police examination of Patel’s phone revealed that he was allegedly involved in scamming another Floridian out of “cash and a large amount of gold ($242,000 worth).” That swindle, in neighboring St. Lucie County, is expected to result in additional charges against Patel.​
There is no "perceived" value here. It's just money laundering.
