Okay, most of us put on the morning news shows - RIGHT? Well, this morning I got jarred awake by my cell phone. My missing maintenance man after being a no show for 7+ work days, called with "do you know" report at 7AM on the dot. His daughter is getting married and he has bills for this come September.

So, I turned on the major 7AM national network. All the news anchor's reports were on the Hollywood Awards last night. After hours party, best whatever, who wore what, dribble and even more dribble. Showered and dressed, the non-ending dribble continued. I had to look on the bottom of the screen for the temperature outside -- praying it was NOT the Hollywood weather.

Airhead dribble. Never ending. I didn't know if Iran was still in existance or if Greece was still paying for their electric or if there was more book burnings occuring. Much less the Costa ship on fire or sinking.

I recently swore off anymore clicking on Huffington Post "one liners" ... leading to $4,500 being paid for rotten chicken nuggets and old wallets in attics from 50 years ago being returned. What a waste of my time ... unlike the valuable stuff I learn here on TUG.

So, where is the best AM newsbroadcasts - TV is desirable.

Try CNN. Sometimes I find it interesting. But I usually turn on the radio to PBS instead. (oops! meant NPR not PBS. PBS is television. NPR is radio.)

I'm with Rose. NPR's Morning Edition every day. There are some 'puff pieces' but you get some depth on the 'real' news even from those. Wonderful invention, NPR radio. You don't have to stare at a piece of furniture to enjoy it, and it won't insult your intelligence. Ho Boy, Now watch, they'll play 'Click 'n' Clack reruns. :)

My favorite is Diane Rehm. Soooo much more civilized than the tv talk shows. And, on Saturdays, I listen to "Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me" while I iron DH's clothes. Makes the task bearable.

Me too. Our local stations don't have Diane Rehm, so I stream KUER. They play it bass-ackward- second hour first allowing live calls from here, and first hour second, recorded for play at 10 a.m. but since I got used to it doing my daily commute to your town, I just couldn't break the habit.

Wait, Wait is also good on the weekends. I'll drop off my ironing. :)

If/when you are in Vegas, the only AM news worth listening to is Channel 5, Fox Local. They run two chunks, with different anchors, 4:30/7:00 AM and 7:00/9:00 AM. They are chatty and humorous, especially the 7:00/9:00 AM folk, and most of all they are local, with weather every ten to fifteen minutes. If there is anything of major import nationally, they get a feed from Sandra Endo, who usually covers a White House beat for Fox Local.

They don't have any connection to Fox News Channel or their politics.

If I am travelling I try to make due with CNN Headline News if it is available.

Our morning local news is filled with dribble trying to get more people to like them on Facebook and follow them on Twitter. Offering contests/prize draws for every 1000 likes they get on Facebook. Enough already, tell us the news.

There's a reason I don't watch TV. :) Really, no one is twisting your arm. Just turn it off! I do, however, listen to NPR and can agree with the others who recommend it.

I gave up 'watching' news a long time ago. I stick to reading independent news sources.

I read somewhere that ABC's Good Morning America was being forced by their parent (Disney?) to be "fluffier" and to promote all ABC's other shows, like Dancing with the Stars, etc.

I'm with all the NPR fans. It's on all day, everyday while I work. Love it, love it, love it.

Personally I like the parody news sources like the Colbert Report, the Onion and Fox News.
Tried the Onion once and didn't care for it. I like Stewart and Colbert. They are insightful as well as funny. However, sometimes they get so crude that I stop watching. And whenever I watch Colbert, I get this strange craving for Americone Dream.

DH is a TV news addict. I am rarely up in the morning so don't listen to the puff, but the evening news programs seem newsy....some puff, but also the usual spate of murder and mayhem and economic issues. What I absolutely can't tolerate is the screaming commercials, mostly for car dealers and furniture stores. If they yell at me I will NOT buy from them.

I listen to SportsTalk Radio most every day, all day, and then switch to CNN while I'm in the kitchen making supper. If anything newsworthy happens then the sports guys will at least mention it so I know to put the TV on. Sometimes the sports guys get too strident with their political views, that's when I shut them off and switch to my iPod. :)

About the car and furniture ads - I HATE the Bob's Furniture ads. He's a loudmouth and she's useless (IMO) so they'll never get my business. :)

I would say Colbert and Fox pretty much tie for being the funniest. I remember Fox News putting on these videos that were supposed to be Wisconsin protests, but had people in short shirts and very obvious palm trees! Pretty funny stuff....

I listen to NPR for news in the morning, I watch the national news in the evening on TV, and I watch the The Daily Show for entertainment. I like the way the The Daily Show challenges accuracy in news reporting.

Thanks for the tip about Diane Rehm.

Where is the news?

On my doorstep every morning. I'm a dedicated ebook reader but I still love my "dead tree" newspaper. I get to choose which stores to read first and which to ignore!

Surprised no one's mentioned PBS' The News Hour. Still the best.

Because it doesn't come on in the morning and the OP asked for morning news. That said, I agree, it is a fine news show.

One of the things I miss about living in North Jersey is the 1010 wins radio news " you give us 22 minutes will give you the world " I can't find a station like that here in Florida .

I, too, read the newspaper. I read it with my morning coffee. I also read news online, but I am not looking forward to the day that the newspaper goes away. I will miss the very local things and the "forward looking" things our paper has.

I miss the 22 minutes and we will give you the news as well. We had it in SF, and I used to listen to it on the commute home. I also miss traffic alerts. They only have traffic on the TV, which doesn't do much good if you think about it.

while I don't watch morning news/news shows, I think the newsworthiness of all televised news has gone down the crapper the last few years. our local news can be downright embarrassing.

I am not the least surprised that the "news shows" have no relevant content. I have long viewed those as packaged points for the masses to digest vs any kind of information-to-rely-on. Has always seemed to be sensationalized drivel to me. I did try while unemployed to watch a bit but it was just way too ... "fluffy" and feature-filled vs informative.
