For those who may have missed it, a few years ago a SW fan came up with the idea for those watching Star Wars films for the first time to do so in Machete Order.
Click here for that article. It is worth a read even for those of us who have seen Star Wars many times over.

Our son was discussing the order to watch Star Wars for someone who has not seen the movies:
  1. Rogue One
  2. Episode 4
  3. Episode 5
  4. Episode 1 (fast forward through Jarr Jarr Binks :()
  5. Episode 2 (flashback to Darth Vader / Emperor origins)
  6. Episode 3
  7. Episode 6
  8. Solo (backstory)
  9. Episode 7
  10. Episode 8
  11. Episode 9
This order avoids spoiling the reveal in Episode 5.

We as a family HATE Episode 1 and feel nothing is lost if it is left out YMMV.

You could put Solo between Episode 4 and 5.

Episode 1, is that the original Star Wars from 1977?

I read the "machete order" article.

It's all a matter of perspective. The author has a "Luke centric" perspective. Nothing wrong with that.

On the other hand, there are other perspectives.

Consider: "The rise, fall, and redemption of Anakin Skywalker."

From that perspective, you have a clear pathway. Eps I, II, III, Rogue One, IV, V, and VI. VI ends the saga (with Anakin's redemption). No matter how many more are made.
