Quite a truth telling review from a TUGer here on the Trip Advisor site. Thus far my reviews on trip Advisor have been limited to straight reviews. Part of me thinks this is a great way to spread the word on TUG and timeshares. Another part of me is a little worried going too mainstream like this could threaten our little timeshare subculture.

spreading the word about resale in any capacity is likely to do more good than harm!

I agree with Brian but I am convinced that people seem to find their way here in "desperation" versus "preparation." I think of all of those "Should I Rescind?" posts as well as the "What Have I Done?" when they realize it's too late or they can't use it like they were promised. This is the proverbial "you can lead a horse to water..." community. I can't tell you how many times I have shared the web address with people I know as well as people I have only just met who are thinking about or have purchased a timeshare. I don't think many have taken my advice. We have very close friends who have purchased three times at the same resort we own, upgrading size and season and paying full price every time. We paid $800 for ours through a TUG resale but we couldn't even get them to consider resale!

You gotta love carl2591 for trying to save people from themselves, though! And it's right out there on Trip Advisor no less. Who knows, maybe there will be an influx of people making their way here. We'll let Brian tell us if we do!

It’s a sad state of affairs when there are a high number of regrets after retail timeshare purchase. It’s sad that people feel scammed, ripped off and stupid from their purchase in the first place. I guess that’s why timeshare has the reputation it does.

I am surprise TripAdvisor allowed this review on their website.

Honestly, so am I. Perhaps TUG is not in their filter because I can't imagine a real human reads these at Trip Advisor.

I agree. For as long as we've owned timeshares, it has always been a smarmy business model that makes most people feel "used" after they purchased. I don't think it is the purchase itself all the time, although many spend more than they can afford, I think it is the lies that surround the sales that make people feel embarrassed and duped.
