Hey, y'all,

I just want to thank you for existing. My wife and I got sold a Hilton Grand Vacation Club (HGVC) timeshare in Myrtle Beach recently. I guess we were each expecting the other to be the one to put the brakes on. That night, while I couldn't sleep (of course), I did some research and found this BBS, with its advice to rescind (and even to look for the directions in the package we received and not go back to the saleman) and buy a resale.

So, after some discussion between the two of us, that's exactly what we did (the instructions were on the signature page for the contract, and they were actually in the package twice).

That was a couple of weeks ago. We dropped the rescission letter in the mail (using a sample format I think I found on this site), and emailed the salesman to let him know (he was/is a nice guy, as far as I could tell). He was nice about it (what could he do, anyway?).

We got our downpayment refund two days after they received the letter.

So, praise and thanks for everybody, all around: y'all AND Hilton. They do seem to be a classy bunch, and if we ever really decide to get into timesharing, I will definitely consider them again.

John.

Saved us $20k

Timeshare was $13k, but if you figure in interest, it came to $21k.

Of course, we haven't turned right around and bought a resale yet, and we may never do so, because (so far) our travel habits don't match the timeshare lifestyle, as far as we can tell.

(Case in point: HGVC has some studios in Scotland that look nice, close to Balmoral, but 2 hours from Culloden. We have a dream of a sort of a B&B tour in Scotland/Ireland to various historical sites, but I doubt we'd really do it from one central timeshare location.)

If we ever do buy a timeshare resale, that $21k figure will come down a bit.

John.

while only 13k, you did put us over 4 million dollars in savings for timeshare owners just for finding TUG in time to cancel and buy resale!
