TUG for sale ads

Looking over the for-sale ads I noticed the sales prices are extremely low. Are these prices for the sale of a timeshare's life (for example, my timeshare's life goes from 2001-2026)? If so, are people trying to sale their TS so that they are no longer responsible for the MF? I know $1500 is better than nothing but, who knows, you could still use it or give it to someone. I'm just trying to figure out why people do what they do in hopes that their reasons can give me some sense as to what I should do with my extra TS weeks/units. Thanks for your patience.

Right now, prices on the resale market are very low because of the economy. You are going to find "realistic" prices in the TUG Ads, because Tuggers know their market values. Right now, the top resorts are going for 50% of the developer sales price (if you are lucky) and the bottom resorts can't even be given away. Even in better times, resale prices are always significantly below developer pricing.

Right now a lot of people are selling because 1) they can't afford the maintenance fees or, 2) they can't afford to travel.

I hate to tell you this, but no matter what the salesman told you, studios in Mexico have little or no rental value - it's a very common ploy to tell prospective buyers that they can rent their extra weeks for enough to cover their maintenance fees, or make a profit.

BTW - most timeshares are not "right to use," so most timeshares do not have an ownership end date. In Mexico, and a few other places, TS's are sold as RTU.

It's funny, I was thinking exactly the opposite. I've only been looking at Hawaii timeshares, and maybe that's an anomaly, but everything I've been interested in has been way over even what members of the TUG BBS have been suggesting as market values.
It has also seemed to me that at least for the past month that I've been looking, nothing has been selling, which again makes me think that prices are too high.
The puzzling thing to me is that, it would seem to me that TUG members should be more knowledgeable. There is quite a gap between those who pay resellers to take TS's off their hands, and those who think they can get close to what they paid to the developer. Where's the informed middle?
There are only a few of them on the TUG classifieds. It seems that most TUG members are getting their bargains on ebay.

I would bet that a lot of people who post ads on TUG never visit the other pages or the forums. So they may not be as informed as one would think.

ebay only has 77 timeshares for sale in hawaii currently.

the Timeshare marketplace has over 250.

How come TUG doesn't put a "sold" stamp on those properties that have just sold?

ads marked as sold or rented are removed from public view.

They will however be listed in the sales history tab of each review page for tracking purposes.
