Trying to plan a Costa Rica trip using SWA Companion Pass and Hilton if possible. Ideas?

We’ve been trying to make a trip to CR work for us in 2025 or early 2026 before our SWA Companion Pass expires. We missed the best time of year to go? Winter/Spring in Norte America. Maybe October 2025 or January/February/March 2026.

We figured fly into Liberia Airport with SWA companion pass, do three FNC nights WA Guanacaste … unlikely to leave the resort, rent a car, hit Fortuna for the volcano for a couple nights using HH points at one of the SLH’s, drive to Marriott Los Suenos stay three nights using Bonvoy Points (would love a week here if we could get MVC timeshare), drive south to Botanika Oso Peninsula Curio Collection by Hilton for five nights using HH points (we need to do a border run to Panamá from here to get passport stamped) then north to San Jose a couple of nights probably Hilton using HH points. Possibly the DoubleTree as it’s less HH points. Then SWA out of San Jose.

Some serious driving I know, but if we take our time we should be ok. Maybe we will visit friends that just moved there. Too bad the resorts offered via DeX and RCI are questionable at best.

Any feedback or ideas appreciated … thanks.

I thought Breezes was a decent resort? However I have not stayed there.

Any recommendations for the East Coast?

Best seasons? How is Nov and Dec? How are the roads? We do not drive in MX.

I heard the same thing. Have not seen any availability at Breezes. Plus I think it's all inclusive which we do not want.

Not sure about east coast … looks like Límon is the only option?

The DeX EU line up is not impressive … Jaco Bay Premium Towers & Taranova-Villas Palmas. Not the most steller reviews on TripAdvisor.

RCI. All inclusive not desirable for us. Some rough reviews on TripAdvisor.

Have you looked at the Registry Collection to see if they have anything available?

Breezes is not all inclusive. However, there are various fees.

We own there in the Gold season, which includes weeks 18-33 and 46-50. It does show up on II periodically and can be booked in MVC using points, though it takes booking piecemeal a few nights at a time and following availability in the platinum season. Happy to answer any questions you have about it. We're back down there at the end of the month along with a few nights before at Los Altos, an SLH near Manuel Antonio. Haven't tried the WA in Guanacaste yet; we had a booking there for a night but shifted to Los Altos instead to get a few more nights and fly in/out of San Jose. We've also stayed at the Intercontinental in San Jose using IHG points - it's really nice.

We stayed at two bdrm at Breezes. There was a sales presentation with Costa Rican breakfast and we received a pass to their private beach club. Transportation to the beach is provided, but not too frequently. They provided pick up and transport from Liberia airport. Resort consists of privately own condos and some TS, which are advertised for sale as private residences. The area was not impressive, but decent grocery store and some restaurants are walking distance.

The overall route looks ambitious, with some serious driving—particularly the leg to the Osa Peninsula, which is quite remote with challenging roads. You might want to consider dropping La Fortuna if time or driving becomes a concern, and instead spend more time relaxing in Los Sueños or Botánika. Alternatively, you could explore a local flight from Quepos or Drake Bay back to San José to save time and avoid long drives.
