Short story: Check-in is Apr. 4th, and the widow knows nothing about the timeshare - her husband handled everything. Is it possible to tell by looking at the reservation if it was made with Destination points? TIA!

If it’s the one from Marriott, not the MVC one....Scroll down to box below summary of charges. If it says MVC Exchange it’s a points ressie. If it says a season, it’s a weeks ressie.

Doesn't look like it's Destination Points? Can she still deposit it with II? Any other options?

Correct....that’s a weeks ressie. I’ll let the weeks experts give you more details on your options.

Based on what I read, I believe MVC will issue a limited use II certificate which is good until Dec 2020 with a $99 exchange fee. There are many locations which are excluded.

Normally when cancelling 2-14 nights before the stay, it is a regular II deposit which is good for 2 years from date of reservation but II exchange can only be done within 30 days of stay. I think because of SIP, II is not accepting these deposits as they cannot be used for exchanges and hence they are doing the limited II use certificate good until end of this year.

So the owner should call Marriott directly? Phone number?

From the MVC website- This can be accomplished using the chat feature on MVC or call 888-MVC-4VOA (888-682-4862).

Cancelling a Reservation Made with Ownership Weeks, with Arrival Dates Through April 23, 2020:

  • Receive an Interval International week that will be deposited into your Interval International account within the next 10 days for future use. The Interval International week will have a reduced exchange rate of $99 and will expire on December 16, 2021. You will be able to check availability up to 120 days prior to your desired travel date.

Good that they now extend another year until Dec 2021.

It would be helpful if she could find out if she has a DC Account before making a II deposit. II exchanges are free and unlimited with the corporate account. That way, she could indefinitely extend her usage by extending out as far as possible.

Also check, if owning more than one week, that this one is enrolled in the DC account.
Most of ours are, but our recent cancellation weeks are not, so we can’t deposit those through our corporate Interval account And would have to re-open our personal Interval account and pay all associated fees.
