Triennial Timeshare + RCI - question about 'last call' & 'extra vacations'

I'm considering buying a triennial timeshare, and wondering if using it within the RCI network there would be any restrictions to getting 'extra vacations' or 'last calls' as long as my RCI membership dues are paid each year?

[triennial - points]
We get only 16,333 points per year from our 1BR triennial timeshare unit, so we use it mainly as a toe-hold into RCI for Last Call, Bonus Weeks, & 7-Night Reservations Below 10,000 Points (i.e., the points version of Last Call).

I have the same as #3 above and I use it in a similar way. No restrictions on extra vacations or last call. I actually have that listed for free in the free section.

I see an older thread that says fixed week triennial at Grandview needs to be converted to points to use with RCI & it costs $$$. Is this accurate?

Just to clarify, could I join RCI ‘weeks’ program if I don’t want to pay to convert to points?

A grandview unit will either have weeks OR points with RCI. If you want a specific one, check when you are buying. It is not worth doing the conversion.

If you have a triennial and it is not in points, you would simply get your unit either 1 BR or a 2 BR once every 3 years. With rci points most triennials give you 1/3 of the points every year.

From everything I have absorbed on the subject from knowledgeable TUG-BBS contributors, I believe buying a resale points unit (eBay, etc.) is generally cheaper than paying a timeshare resort to do points conversion on a straight-weeks unit that you already own.

Very helpful! Thanks so much for quick replies. Moving forward with Grandview week purchase / ‘weeks’ membership RCI. 😊

I don’t mean to hijack the thread but any idea if a triennial weeks unit is deposited to RCI can the TPUs be used for separate transaction? If so can they be combined with other deposits?

You can use a TPU deposit and then use the leftovers for something else. If you need to combine the leftovers together or the leftovers with another deposit there is a fee to do so. The expiration on the combined deposit would expire either 12 or 24 months from the combine date regardless of the original expiration date. TPU combine costs are $169/$249. You can combine up to 9 deposits for a single fee.
