Do the Tri Royals in Cancun offer more of a family atmosphere or a party atmosphere? Does it change over a holiday week (Thanksgiving, Christmas, Spring Break?) From all the favorable reviews, I assume it's more of a family atmosphere. We have friends who are thinking of trading in to one of the Royals but they don't want to end up in a party/drunken atmosphere with their 3 year old. I told them I didn't think that was the case but I'd check with TUG.

Thanks!

Once owned these: FirstFairway@Walden X 2; Lawai Beach; ManhattanClub; PuebloBonitoRose; 4 South Africa--now timeshare-free
We were at the Royal Caribbean during spring break a couple of years ago and it was definitely a family atmosphere with no spring break partiers anywhere on the property. Your friends should have a wonderful time.

Definitely a family atmosphere. Spring Breakers of the party-drunk type are not welcome at the Royals.

In ~19 years of going there, including New Years and the Fourth of July, we have seen only two or three drunks, and in each case security quickly escorted them away. Once we saw group of young men sitting on their terrace enjoying beer and using colorful language; I called up to them with a reminder of the little kids below them in the pool area, and they politely apologized and that was the end of it.

We were there in May and jokingly agreed it's not only a family atmosphere, but an "AARP" atmosphere :ignore: . We were sorry we didn't bring our 3 year old with us.

Definitely not a party atmosphere

I would have to agree with that last post. I find that the Royal Sands is more of a party atmosphere, but only during the welcome party on Sunday evening, than the tri-Royals. Although none of the Royals have a problem with spring breakers staying up all night and ruining your evening. The pool area is pretty much deserted by 10pm every night. There are the occasional happy hour sprees at the swim up bar and eveining cigars on the deck but that would be the worst scenario.

Royal Sands....A Tale of Two Phases

Regarding the comment about Royal Sands having more of a party atmosphere at their welcome party. It should be made clear that while it may be a "party" atmosphere, it is not a "drunken party" by any means. Lots of fun and fine for the whole family, in my opinion.

We own week 51 & 52 - Christmas and New Year's weeks, probably two of the highest capacity weeks. There are two pool areas at the Sands - Phase I, and Phase II. Phase I is the more populated, lively, active, busy pool area, while Phase II offers a calmer, more laid-back atmosphere. So you really have a choice of what type of pool area atmosphere you prefer. That being said, both Phases are definitely family oriented.

The sundeck welcome party at all of the Royals is as wild as it gets - which is not wild at all.

The Tri-Royals have a more laid-back atmosphere similar to that of the Sands Phase II described above, and the atmosphere at the Club Internacional is even more laid back - as peaceful as it can get.

The atmosphere at Club Internacional was a bit more lively last year after the membership renewal, probably because a lot more units were rented.

But it was still sedate compared to the spring break hotels.

Ha ha ha! I laughed thinking about all the "wild" parties I've been to at the Sands!! Let's see...there's the balloon toss, and limbo, and follow-the-leader line dancing...Those Crazy Crazy timesharers!!!

party at the sands

Well I guess I should have been more clear with what I meant by "party" I have an 11 year old son, and we much prefer the atmosphere to the Sands than the tri-royals. The more beach volley ball, limbo, pool games and piñatas the better we like it!
