The main power source in USVI WAPA is having major problems since sometime in May. I'd suggest to anyone going to make sure you stay in a place with backup generators until they get things sorted. The timeshare resorts all have backup generators, so long as they don't fail you maybe good. Many people stay in Condo and Villa rentals that may not have backup generators, so no a/c no running water etc.

Power outages continue in the VI, make sure you know what the back up generators power and what is not.

no running water etc.
Is running water usually a problem with power blackouts? I can see hot water being an issue but water usually still flows.

Wells require electric for the pumps.
True, but wells pump water to the towers and the towers then gravity feed most residential areas. The towers hold about a days worth of water. Usually enough time for the power to come back on and start refilling the tower. Also, many water systems in the US should have backup generators to operate pumps for these wells that feed the towers. Loss of water on a water system is rare when the power goes out. If one has their own well, then that is a different story.

There are places that have cistern water, no water towers from what I have seen of St Thomas/St John. Sometimes you can't flush the toilet if the power is out, they use grey water for some things.
