Hello,
My dad is over 85 years old . He has medicare insurance . He can function on his own and has good and bad day . He is on medication for stroke, high blood pressure .

He wants to visit Thailand to see the Grand Palace .I would like to take him to this trip but I worry that what if he get sick in a foreign country . The trip will be a week or 10 days max .

I would like to know what your thought about travel insurance . Is there any good travel insurance plan we can buy which will accept prior conditions and will provide medical evacuation if needed .

If you do know a good travel insurance and have been happy with their service, please let me know.

Thank you

I think most travel insurance policies cover pre-existing conditions as long as you buy the policy at the same time (within a week or so) that you book and pay for the trip. At least that is what I have seen. Given your situation, I would go for the "premium" level of insurance that will cover a high amount for medical evac, etc.

Here, from TUG Travel info stickies is a comparison site that you can use to compare prices and coverages from several reputable insurance carriers. http://www.insuremytrip.com/ We have used Travel Guard in the past- when DW's 90+ y.o. father either accompanied us or we insured in case we would have to come home from a trip early, but (knock wood) have not had a claim, so I can't tell you how they are after the sale. I know of a TUGger whose wife had a medical emergency in Mexico. They covered her hospitalization there and after she was stable, medical evacuation to their hospital in Seattle along with a nurse to accompany her. iirc the bill was over $50,000 and it was paid without problems.

Run the numbers on Insure My Trip, and remember, in order to cover pre-existing conditions, coverage MUST be bought within a short time of paying the down payment for a trip.
