I have bought from both and for our current trip, with Allianz. I have never made a claim but I like Allianz's high medical evacuation and medical emergency overage. I really don't care for everything else. I have read enough about how evacuation can cost 250K to 500K so, the higher the coverage amount the better.

I also check to see whether the medical coverage is primary or secondary, and I spend a little more to get up to double or triple the coverage - as an example, a trip I'm pricing out now there's a difference of $12 between a policy with $35,000 emergency medical and $50,000 medical evacuation, vs $100,000 medical and $500,000 medical evac/repatriation. To me it's a no-brainer to spend such a small difference for the better coverage.

I had a claim with Allianz before and it worked out fine. However, mine covered full cost of the trip ($3,000) and I noticed yours only covers $1,000 for cancellation. If your trip costs more than $1K, you'll be very disappointed to only get $1,000 back if you have to cancel.

Yearly policies avaiable

We just purchased the Allianz yearly policies as we usually make at least two or three flight trips a year. At age 75 was around $250 each with a smaller $100,000 for emergency flights. The cancellation amount was $3000 each which will cover even frequent flyer cancellation. I noted many complaints of non payment from all the companies. Must follow the procedures faithfully and within the timeframes. Like all insurance hope you never need to use it.

If you are doing timeshare travel look into Vacation Guard's annual timeshare plus policy. It covers a full year of trips and everyone who is with you. We had a medical claim last year and it was paid within a week of filing the claim.
