We are leaving SFO for NYC, The Manhattan Club May 4. From there we need to get to Williamsburg, VA for a week at Wyndham Kingsgate, then home to SFO on May 18.

Currently Virgin America has a good price ($258) for travel non-stop from SFO-JFK and then returning Washington DC to SFO.

I am not very knowledgeable of East Coast travel. Can anyone suggest the best way to get from NYC to Williamsburg? Also the best way to travel from Williamsburg to DC for a flight that departs at 5:00 p.m? Is the train a good option?

I could get a flight with one stop back to SFO from RIC in the afternoon of May 18. Are there good shuttles from Williamsburg to Richmond, VA? I am thinking the DC option might be better.

I appreciate any ideas you might have.

One way to go from DC to Williamsburg and back, is with Amtrak -- www.amtrak.com -- which has two trains each way ($29.00)... the Northeast Regional... between Union Station and Williamsburg with stops in between including Richmond.

However, you may want to consider renting a vehicle, as you'll likely want to get around some.

If you want to rent a vehicle, consider renting in Richmond. It is an easy drive from Williamsburg, and it may save quite a bit of time vs. taking the train. We did this on a trip from Phillidelphia to Williamsburg, and we would have ended up waiting several hours in Richmond just to take the train to Williamsburg. The drive was less than an hour, I think. Plus there were better car rental deals in Richmond.
