It's wonderful. Your eyes will pop out. And, by consuming cider and doughnuts your stomach will pop out. It's one of the world's most beautiful places. And, don't miss Burlington--the Zurich of New England.

Have never been to the lodge, etc. during the fall tree display....Whats it like there in october....thanks

Expect cold nights, cool, warm or hot days. A cold front sweeping through from Canada will likely bring frosty evenings, cool days. A few days later it could feel like summer. Snow at the lodge is unlikely but there could be snow up in Smuggler's Notch, a neat place and popular fall destination, as well as the mountain peaks. Stowe will be running their Gondola for leaf peepers (as will most ski areas.) The staff should be able to provide good off-the-beaten-path routes for foliage viewing without traffic.

Looking out of the window while writing this I can see color starting to turn on the fringes of some branches and a few trees are already red. (We are at 1500'.) By early October the mountain peaks in the Stowe area should be at full color and a week to 10 days into October the valleys will be at full color.
