I think I created a costly transportation & hotel mess  . I booked flights a day earlier than my Thanksgiving timeshare starts to save a couple hundred per ticket. So I need to get a room for one night. We have 5 pp (2 adults, 3 kids) travelling which creates another problem--room big enough for 5.

We WERE going to rent a car but after all the horror stories with insurance and corrupt police don't think it's worth the hassle.

So my main questions are:

*since we won't be going right to Mayan Palace and able to use their free shuttle, is there any Cancun hotels that offer shuttles from the airport? I haven't been able to find that service via searches.

* does Mayan Palace offer free shuttle back to the airport?

*what other transportation options are there?

Looking at recommended shuttle companies, it looks like it would be over $100 for our family to go from Cancun to Playa area b/c we can't use a standard cab. Does that sound right? Is there bus service in Cancun we should consider? I'm starting to regret booking a day early. Also, I've seen recommendations to use Entertainment Plus or or Cancun valet for tours. We are definately rental car people and since Riviera Palace is remote, is this a HUGE issue?

Any help is appreciated. We've only been to Cozumel for our honeymoon 19 yrs ago. That island is so small it is easy to navigate. We are lost on what to expect in Cancun/Playa.

Thanks!
Jackie

Greg,
I was almost ready to kiss you:banana: but Orbitz showed no availability. I think I will email the concierge at Mayan Palace & GM and ask if they have any rooms direct and keep looking on other travel sites for these two places.

Thanks for the idea.

Try Imperial Fiesta Club @ Casa Maya, we needed an extra night and got a studio unit that had two double beds and a pull out couch. It was reasonable, around $100 but we probably got an owners discount.

Then take the ADO bus to Playa, you can take a taxi from Playa for a reasonable amount, or take the bus back to the airport and take the Mayan shuttle from there.

Try these web sites:

http://www.travelyucatan.com/

http://www.cancuntips.com/

There’re a lot of hotels listed and you can go directly to their web site and book a room. Be careful some of the prices are per person and not per room.

Maybe if you arrive in Cancun late during the day you could just camp out overnight in the airport. :)

Buena Surete!

Entertainment Plus will do any kind of shuttle you want. If it is not listed on their website just email Brant and he will take care of you.
When we needed a shuttle from Playa del Carmen(we had come over from staying on Cozumel by ferry) to the Royal Mayan in Cancun I just emailed him and we got it all handled that way.
It worked great and he is very reasonable.
So if you still find you need some kind of a shuttle try him. We have used him two different years and been exceptionally happy.
