Transferring to a family member

Is it possible to transfer a timeshare to a family member so they'll be responsible for M/F, trades, reservations, name on the deed, etc. while still keeping all of the StarOption/Starpoint values, as well as having the transferred unit count towards elite status (as it does now)?

Or does it just have to go through the resale process where it's up for ROFR and if sold it basically loses most of its privileges and can only be booked for it's week or traded through II?

My folks have been owners for several years (and I've been an owner for 3) and I was wondering if it's possible/better to take over ownership for their unit or have them continue to own it and just pay their M/F as they can no longer travel and use it. It doesn't make sense to me to buy it "resale" from my parents and then spend a ton to have it requalified to use it's StarOption value (or have it count towards my elite status)

BTW it's not a "Mandatory" unit.

I hope I'm making sense here... apologies if there's a thread about this already.

If you document that this is a in-family transfer, the full benefits will transfer to you. (Assuming they bought from the developer and this unit has those benefits already.)

You should call the Starwood title office to find out how to do this.

The contact info. for the title office is at the top of our main Starwood page, under Starwood Owner Resources.

QUESTION: do you want and need this timeshare? If you are just trying to help out your parents, but you don't want it, another option is to give it away.

*Based on your location, I am guessing that this timeshare is in Florida. Florida is over-built with timeshare, so it probably has no re-sale value. If it's somewhere else, please post and we can be more specific.

Thanks for the reply DeniseM

Yes, it is in Orlando (Sheraton Vistana Villages) and I would definitely want it, not just to help them out, but it would be the cheapest way to increase my StarOptions. (side bonus is that i think it would put me into 3 star elite - but the benefits of that seems to be trivial)

3 Star Elite really doesn't have any big perks, but if you are going to get their TS, might as well have it.

If you contact the title office, they should be able to walk you through the procedure. If you get someone un-helpful, call back.

Family transfers are not subject to ROFR.
