Hi ,
I am hoping someone could give me some information as to the best transfer company to use to get from the airport to the Royal Hacienda. We will be going there in December. I am looking forward to staying at the Royal Hacienda as it seems very nice. Also, my husband and I scuba dive but are a little hesitant to do so in Mexico. Can anyone give me some insight on this?
Thanks,
Deb

I wouldn't hesitate to dive in MX. I've done nearly 100 dives there and will be again in Dec. The dive shop at the Haciendas is outstanding; Dive Balam Marcos runs it. You get on the boat right there (no dock though) and the reef runs the entire length of coastline, great visibility. It's a new shop with new Scuba Pro equipment (though I bring my own stuff down). Also go over to Cozumel and dive, world class diving there. We also just use Thomas Moore.

For transfers from the airport, if you do not rent a car, I would use Cancun Valet. We liked their service better than Thomas Moore's.

Thomas More would be my last choice. TM requires everyone to check back in with them one day prior to your departure from resort to airport. Why? No idea, since you provided your return information including flight number, flight time etc. when you first reserved. It's a unnecessary redundancy. The last time I used their service, I was scolded for not checking in with them the day before my departure "we may not have room for you now, you were supposed to check in with me yesterday!". My first choice would be Cancun Valet. Seamless, reliable, smooth. They also provide contact telephone numbers while in Mex. USA Transfers gets high marks also.

Dive Balam is the on-site diver operator at the Royal Hacienda and they are excellent. I've been diving with them since the Hacienda opened, and will be again this winter when I return. The staff is professional, attentive, safe and considerate. And best, they make certain you have fun and enjoy yourself. Tell your husband to look no further than Dive Balam.

Ditto on Cancun Valet, then USA Transfers, then Th More - however it depends somewhat on how many of you are traveling. The first two only do private vans, which is less expensive when there are 4 or more, but Th more does it per person, which is less expensive for 1-3. Check prices for all three online.

Double ditto on Cancun Valet. We have been using them for 9 years now and have never encountered a problem! The only minor issue that we have encountered from Cancun Valet when traveling back to the airport from the Haciendas is that due to the freeway traffic, Cancun Valet has been late picking us up a couple of times. We still made our flights, but it was a tad stressful while waiting. Now, we just add 30 minutes to our pick up time to be sure we will make it to the airport on time.

We used Thomas More each time in the last two trips, both in June and had no problems. This June we were the only two people in the van in both directions, even though we had paid for shared service.

I second going to Cozumel to dive.

We used Thomas Moore on our first trip to Royal Haciendas and since then just get a cab. It's a little cheaper and you don't have to wait for anyone. Do not hesitate to dive with the onsite dive op, Dive Balam is wonderful. The staff is great, and rental equipment is fine. You should love Royal Haciendas, it's a first class resort.

To clarify for anyone new to the area, you can't get a cab from airport to your resort.

Also, I've never had to wait for my transfer with Cancun Valet. They've had to wait for us though.. ;)

Oops, my bad, I swore we took a taxi from the airport to the resort last year. So sorry. I am 100% certain that we take a cab back to the airport.

My choice: USA Transfers

We used to use Thomas Moore and Cancun Valet. For the past 3 years we have used USA Transfers exclusively. Owned by an ex-American (Brandt). Clean modern vans, courteous English speaking drivers, and always there waiting for me on time when I arrive at the airport or when I step out of the resort on departure day. They are just a phone call away, or you can make arrangements via their web site.

Do you find them preferable to Cancun Valet? I've generally read excellent reviews of both, and what you list is true of CV as well.

We've had good experiences with USA Transfers, also. Last year we gave them a more complex-than-usual combination of airport to Tri Royals, back to airport and to RH and back. Never had a problem with any aspect of travel.

When we used Cancun Valet last year they were excellent. I'm planning on booking them for our trip next summer.

I have Cancun Valet booked for our trip this Saturday! That is, if we make it on Saturday...this darn Rina!
