When owners trade a week for Marriott points, do the deposited weeks go into the exchange pool or does Marriott keep them for rentals? Just curious how this works.

I doubt they go into the pool. Marriott now owns that week, so they probably list it for rent.

Marriott rents those weeks for themselves/their own revenue. That's how they offset the cost of providing you with the points.

They rent them, and in some cases use them for promo visits in attempt to sell more units.

I was told, when I was trying to make a reservation using points, that the resort I wanted needed one of their owners to exchange their week for points to enable inventory (using points). This makes sense and why it's so hard to find availability using points for exchange. Not many owners do it.
Yes, I'm the one who's gotten TWO Hawaii exchanges, through points (Into Vacation Clubs). I had never heard that it "wasn't allowed", when you get your points through giving back your own resort. In fact I remember our agent telling us that it was one of the benifits. While it NAS BEEN a benifit, it is NOT one that is easily come by.

How do you like the Palm Canyon Resort?
Is it a good alternative to DS?

Hi, We really enjoy and get a lot of use out of Palm Canyon because of the ease and flexibility of the point system.

However, if is NO Marriott. Palm Canyon is more "family" orientated with many young children. It is also a converted hotel so it's not spread out and luxurious like DS. Two totally different experiences.
