Trading Marriott Resale Week in II

We are new owners of a resale Marriott week at Newport Coast. The previous owners had reserved a week in August for us, which we are considering trading in II. I tried the Search Before You Deposit option, but it only appears to show availability for units between now and the August date of our reservation, which doesn't seem very helpful to me as we can't travel this summer otherwise I would use the week we already have booked. Whereas if we just deposited it, we can view availability way in the future. Does this sound right, or am I doing the Search Before You Deposit wrong? And if I want to deposit the week to II, as long as I do it more than 60 days out from my the check-in date, we won't be limited in our exchange options, right? Thanks in advance for any guidance you can offer.

Are you trying to do a search or setup an ongoing search? An ongoing search setup online will only let you put in dates up to the checkin date of your week and not beyond. If you are searching instant inventory through Exchange "Vacation Exchange" button, you should be able to set a date range up to two years out.

If you were to deposit, you want to do it more than 60 days out to prevent any restrictions.

Instead of using the reservation number you have for your reserved week just type in a random 9 digit number and say your reservation date is a year from now.
That will allow you to search into the future.
But you are still are only searching what is left over after request have been fulfilled.
If you are not staying the reserved week or renting it you might as well deposit it.
Do it more than 60 days from the check in date so the week won’t be restricted.
Your week will be good for 2 years.
Place a request as far in advance as possible- MVC weeks can be deposited a year in advance so requesting that far or more in advance will give you the most exposure and best chance.

You should be able to place a “request first” with but I am not sure if that is for only up to the check in date of the week. You can find that answer in II’s buyers guide at the bottom of the page under legal or by calling II.

But again if are not staying your reserved week or renting it you might as well deposit it.

It would actually be an 8-digit number.

ETA: It looks like II has removed all of the edits from the Reservation number when searching. It used to require only 8 digits and at one point it required it to begin with 7, 8 or 9. Now it looks like it will accept anything, even alpha characters.

9 digit works too :)
Just tried it to be sure I was remembering correctly.
Yeah, it seems anything works. I think though, Marriott confirmation numbers are only 8-digits. At least the last several I have had were.

If you know you won't use it, I'd just deposit now and set up an ongoing search ASAP.

I would recommend that you rent out that August week. You can search with your 2023 undeposited week.
This is what I would do.

You can search without depositing by entering in a dummy reservation number and dates that you would potentially deposit.

I always enter "87654321".

Thanks for all the feedback. We did post it for rental in Tug and on Koala, but as we are about 3 months away from check-in, thinking we should deposit it before we get too close to the 60-day cutoff. I'll try searching tomorrow using the tricks that you've all provided.
