Trying to plan ahead for next summer's trip. Any thoughts on trading into Spain (either Marbella or playa andaluza0 with MFV? We are able to go down to a 1 BR, and MFV only has two bedroom. Hoping to get July 4th week for MFV. Thanks for the help!

Is there a question here? I like Spain just fine, but if you are curious about your trading power, wouldn't you get better information from your exchange company than an internet interest group?

II has yet to provide me with any advise on my odds of getting a certain week. II will encourage you to lock-off, if that is an option and deposit early, but I have never heard of them advising on the odds of landing a trade.

In regards to the op's trade power question, no one can give you an answer to this and the odds of someone who has tradded their Fairways unit for Spain and seeing this post to explain how they did it are pretty low -- though I hope someone chimes in. Personally, I think your odds are very good. #1, you will have Marriott preference and that is the most powerful thing going for you. #2, you are giving up a two bedroom and II loves/values those two bedrooms and three bedrooms more than anything else. I think you will do fine.

When you ask about trade power here, all you get is speculation. Occasionally, you will hear from some who made a similar exchange but not often.

OK - well as it is Marriott to Mrriott you would get the preference for an exchange.

July 4th is into high season in Europe so demand will be high. It will be into Summer school holidays for some countries in Europe already.

I would get a request in ASAP and then sit back and wait to see what comes up.

Getting into Marbella during their Summer Holiday time is like trying to trade into the Carolinas during prime summer weeks. Southern Spain is like Myrtle Beach/Hilton Head for folks in Europe. Most owners opt to use those weeks. Not saying you wont be able to get in but I would not limit myself to just only July 4th week.

You may want to include some of the shoulder weeks in your search. Marbella beach resort has a slightly different calendar than Playa (not sure why because they are 15 minutes from each other. I would suspect it has to do with Marbella being older than Playa and Marriott started selling the "special holiday" weeks and didn't want to carry over that complicated schedule to Playa.) and all of June is still in the gold season for Playa so it maybe slightly easier to get into Playa in June.

Both resorts are pretty easy to get into during a good portion of the gold and all of silver seasons. I can see even 3 brd units with my Grand Chateau studio for April and and going into May for Marbella.

I would suggest reserving your strongest Fairway week, deposit, and wait and see. Who knows, you may get that prime week you are looking for. Good luck.

I appreciate all of the comments. We have platinum for MFV...I guess my post was misleading as we are hoping to reserve MFV for July 4th as the best possible trade week. For Spain, we will have flexibility for the summer as I am a teacher...it sounds like if we could somehow go the end of June, since that is still gold, we might have a better shot. With our crazy winters in New England, we never know how adding snow days to our schedule could change our last day of school, so going in June might be a stretch.

Again, I know there are no answers but I like to get feedback from the "pros" rather than interval...because frankly I don't believe anything they tell me!

Yea, i kinda had the feeling you were possibly refering to reserving the fairway week for July 4th for trade when I first read the post but went with the other interpretation.

If you are not tied to going in the summer for beach activities, you may want to look at going during another school break like spring break or possibly Thanksgiving that is off peak for the European folks. You will have beautiful weather to take in all the sites and not have to contend with the peak times. Playa's calendar is all gold during the U.S. spring break times so it should be an easier trade. I did a mock search with my full 2 brd Grand Chateau week and I saw full 2 bdr during spring break week for Playa. If you can go during Thanksgiving, you will have your pick of both resorts without a problem and could trade a studio for a 2 bdr in either very easily. I know you may have to take off a few days for Thanksgiving but just providing some other options if summer time doesn't work out.

I plan to try a summer trade into Marbella or Playa one year. We traded into Marbella the week after Thanksgiving back in 2005 and had a wonderful time. Weather was wonderful the whole time (low to mid 70s) and sunny. It rained one day toward the end of the trip but all other days were great.

I have traded a gold Fairway Villas week (President's Week) for Canyon Villas over Thanksgiving (twice) Ocean Pointe over New years and Grand Timber Lodge in Breckenridge over Presidents Week (all one bedrooms). July 4th ought to have signifigantly more trade power. Not sure how that translates to Spain in the summer, but thought it could be a useful data point.
