...or do I say "need to rent it?" In any event, I am not the resort owner, but traded for this week through Interval Int'l. Of course we can transfer the week (for a fee!) to someone else, and I'd like to be able to post it on TUG. Does the fact that we are not the resort owners necessitate that I post this somehow differently? And, in terms of the one who might buy this week from us, does anyone have a recommended method of requesting payment? We have sold weeks in the past and been paid via PayPal. I always fear that buyers are very nervous about this arrangement, though, and I wonder what others do in terms of a good payment arrangement that both parties are comfortable with.

I do believe you cannot rent a week you got through a trade.

It’s against the rules to rent the unit. I’m sure people do but if caught who knows what they can do. I wouldn’t want to find out. Sorry to hear you can’t go any longer. Next time do the Eplus option

When you say "cannot rent" it, do you mean as in posting it for rent on TUG? Because I know we have traded into weeks in the past that we couldn't use and did "sell" the week, i.e. transferred the week to others who paid us for it. I simply paid the fee to Interval International (through whom the week was acquired to begin with!) to transfer our week into the buyers' names. Have done this numerous times but have never placed an ad (for a week we've traded into but can't use) on the TUG forum. And that was really my question as to how to place an ad (or "word" the ad as non-original resort owners) and how others request payment for a vacation week being sold. I'm not sure what's meant by it being "against the rules" to rent the unit--wasn't even really part of my question, so very perplexing considering I've done it on several occasions! (By officially transferring the week through Interval International. They do charge a fee for it, but certainly it's allowed.)

Whether you have done it before or not doesn't mean it isn't against the terms and conditions you agreed to when you signed up for II and you traded your week. Renting an interval trade is a violation of their terms and conditions. The purpose of the guest certificate is so you can send friends and family using getaways or if you want to give away your week. Do people rent them? Sure they do. You certainly have. It doesn't mean it isn't against their terms and conditions.

Once you start putting up ads online to rent the trades, you raise the stakes considerably. We have seen several people report being locked out of their II accounts because II found rental ads for weeks that they had gotten on trade.

From the T&C:
The Host Accommodations may be used only for personal and noncommercial purposes. Members are expressly prohibited from exchanging or renting the Host Accommodations, including, but not limited to, offering the Host Accommodations for sale or rent to third parties through the use of a Guest Certificate or otherwise. Failure to use the Host Accommodations will not entitle Members to use the Home Resort accommodations for the period relinquished. Confirmations are issued only in the name of the Member placing the exchange request, and Host Accommodations may be used only by the Member and accompanying guests, unless a Guest Certificate is obtained from II. There is a fee for each Confirmation assigned via a Guest Certificate which must be paid, plus any applicable tax, when the certificate is requested. This Guest Certificate fee is in addition to the exchange fee required when the exchange request is placed. Notwithstanding the foregoing, Interval Platinum Members are not required to pay a Guest Certificate fee when requesting a Guest Certificate for their guests. Guest Certificates may only be obtained for personal or noncommercial purposes. Failure to secure a Guest Certificate where required for a guest of the Member when the Member does not plan to occupy the Host Accommodations (including instances where the Member has been issued Confirmations for multiple units having the same travel dates at the same Member Resort), or obtaining Guest Certificates that are used for commercial purposes may result in termination of the membership and cancellation of any existing Confirmations, including those with future travel dates. Guests of Members who arrive at a Host Resort without a Guest 8 Certificate will be denied access to the accommodations until the Member has purchased a Guest Certificate from II.

Well then I won't! Word of mouth has worked pretty well so we'll stick with that. But just so I follow...I pay II to issue a Guest Certificate for my sister & her family to stay at a resort we've traded into. II says I cannot receive payment from said sister for said week--is that how it works? (Because that would render it a "commercial" endeavor?)

You can also give the trade back and pay a full re-trade fee for the next exchange. If it is less than 60 days out you will be limited to a short range rental less than 60 days.
