I was very happy to nab a reservation at DVC - SSR for March 19, 2016 last week (not thru OGS). I called Disney to see if they can provide me with the Disney reservation number and they don't have this booking on their system yet. Does anyone know how long it takes for RCI to transmit the reservations to Disney's system? I booked DVC - Vero Beach last Christmas week and they were able to find my reservation on their system.

Thanks in advance.

It typically takes 2-3 weeks

It usually takes one week, not 2-3. I give it a full week, and if there are holidays in that week, I add another day or two. RCI supposedly faxes the confirmations to Disney, and it takes a week because the queue is so long. Sounds ridiculous to me, but yep, that is what RCI says.

So if I have 4400 HGVC points expiring at the end of this year that I want to deposit into RCI, can I then use the new 8800 RCI points to trade to DVC?

Those disney properties sound awesome!

You can.

Just expect all the extra fees related to that.

209 for the week + 95 DVC exchange fee...

I'm really thinking that renting timeshares is a better deal financially than being an owner!
All these fees really add up.

I've been thinking that, too. For the places that I really want to stay in, I still think it is better to own, but for exchanging, it seems better to rent.

BTW, you won't use 8800 Hilton points for RCI exchanges. You'll either use 3400 for a one bedroom or 4800 for a 2 bedroom. I'm pretty sure 2 bedroom DVC exchanges have become extremely rare. So, you'll likely use 3400 points and still have some leftovers.

I tend to view my TS ownership as more of lifestyle choice than a way to save big bucks.. Yes you can save money in many cases, but I agree some place like Vegas and Orlando you can probably do better on the open market. But even in Vegas i have been happy with the HGVC resorts..

If you manage to find an RCI exhange you'd like to book for a stay next year...
You do not need to rescue or deposit your HGVC points to nake the booking.
You can book, and current year points will be drawn first, then 2016 points.

Otherwise, you can rescue the points b4 they expire (by 12/31) to either HGVC or RCI...
If you rescue them to HGVC, they can be used for either a HGVC resort or RCI exchange in 2016.
Do not wait until the final few days of 2016, as the system bogs down in traffic in the last week.
