Does Marriott have a policy or system where an owner can "upgrade" (i.e trade) their current Marriott ownership week for ownership of more expensive week at the same property or a different week at a new property? If yes, how is the trade-in, or down payment, price determined?

Yes they do. You need to call the equity trade department at 866-363-8215 and they can explain your options. There does not seem to be any real rhyme or reason, really dependent on what kind of inventory they want. They offered almost nothing for my gold week and something reasonable for my platinum week, but the new investment required was too high. You may get lucky if they are looking for something specific.

We coinsidered doing a equity trade on our MMC for MOW. They were willing to give us our full purchase price for MMC as a trade in. however Marriott is currently selling these units for quite a bit more than we paid so they were definitely going to make $ on the deal. In addition they required that we then purchase a OW unit for a certain $ threshold above what they were going to give us on the trade in. In order to spend the required dollar figure over and above the trade we would have had to purchase a platinum oceanfront unit at Ocean Watch and we wanted gold time so we never went through with the deal.
Also if you trade they were not willing to give us any of the point incentives for the new purchase.

Does it matter where you buy?

Thank you. Does the trade-in value depend upon which property one is considering buying or the cost of the new property? Or is the trade-in value the same?
