Has anyone experienced the Camary using the Bluetooth that comes with the car as an option? Glitches? I know the cell phone needs Bluetooth capability which mine has. Not sure worth money for that package. Comments....

DW's Prius has Bluetooth. She finds it too big a PITA to initialize it each time she gets in the car for her short trips. It seems to work well, so it's not the fault of the car. Whether it's worth the price is up to you. I know that slowly but surely it will become illegal- and not a good idea now- to hold a phone to your ear.

My BT auto connects.

I have a 2005 Prius. My blue tooth is set to my phone and will auto connect to my phone once my phone is within the car.(does not work if my phone is in the trunk).

Once the initial set up is done the only time I need to redo it is if my phone battery gets completely discharged for some reason and loses the set up.

I can answer my phone and hang up from the controls on the steering wheel.

My son likely has the car you are thinking of getting, I will ask him if it works the same as mine.

Once you pair them, they should auto-connect after that. That's the way my bt devices work.

I have it in my Nissan Altima, I never ever use it. I always forget to turn the bluetooth on my phone on.

When I've used it, it works well. But I wouldn't go searching for it if the car didn't have it.

Maybe I should clarify. The car would connect to the phone if DW had the BT activated on the phone. I have one of the over-the-ear bt devices for mine and it works that way. We aren't complete Luddites here, just partial Luddites.

I have a bt add-on in my car (the type that just slides on the visor). I just leave the bt radio on all the time on the phone. If the phone doesn't have that option, I can see that it would be a PITA, but, as you noted, it's not because of the car.

Thanks for all the advice. But it really makes me nervous. Not sure how it will work here in Vermont. I can see maybe in the cities, but with the hills and mountains in Vermont not sure how it would come in. Though if the cell phone works in places, it should in the car. I think it would be nice, but for the price of the upgrade, not so much. I don't use the car much except back and forth to work anyway.

Not all phones are compatible with the bluetooth in the Camry (or any other car). You can call your carrier to determine if your particular phone is compatible with the Camry.

If your cell works so will the BT. BT has nothing to do with your ability to receive incoming calls or make outgoing calls.

I personally wouldn't be without mine as it is considerably safer and now stipulated by law where I live that you cannot use a cell while driving unless it's handsfree. I can see this type of legislation being implemented in many places in the future.

My car came with bluetooth which is combined with GPS, audio, car service, etc., so I got a Blackberry Curve cellphone to work with it. For some reason the 'address book' on the BB doesn't show up on the car so I have to enter the addresses on the car manually and call on the phone that way handsfree. Problem is that there are at least 100 phone numbers in the BB and only 30 or so put into the car's BT, which is a real pain if you want to call one that's on the BB but not on the BT ... but you can dial from the BB and the sound comes through the speakers of the car, but until you enter it into the car's address book it is somewhat manual still. But when it works, I love it.

That is a known issue and was corrected with the updated OS for the BB. I had the same problem with my 8700 but OS 4.2 fixed it and then I was able to upload my entire address book via bluetooth to the car's system. 4.5 is now available for the Curve so you could try that and see if it fixes the issue.
