Torn to deposit our WKV week with II or to bank Staroptions

We banked our WKV SOs(148,000) 2 years ago and used to book WKORN 2BR last September. We normally book Hawaii in September. This year I am contemplating banking our SOs and thinking to deposit the week instead and will get 2 weeks out of it. We had been lucky booking Hawaii so far using our SDO. For example this year, we are going to Hawaii in September for 2 weeks to MKO 2Br and week after to Nanea using the SDO. I am thinking that we are actually "wasting" (can't come up with a better word) our WKV because if we deposited it, we can get Hawaii using half of the lock off and save the other half for extra vacation, maybe visit WKV :) . If we banked the SOs, we will need to use the full option to book 2Br. We always want to book a second week in Hawaii to go with our MKO week.

May I please hear your thoughts on this. Thank you!

It's much easier to find availability with StarOption than in II. If you deposit to II, you risk not getting the weeks you want. With StarOptions, this risk is much lower.

+1

There are two ways using StarOptions can be less expensive: airfares/choice of flights (because you can confirm your reservations at eight months) and being able to schedule multi-week trips with confidence. OP was fortunate in being able to get back to back exchanges into high end Hawaii resorts for this September; it would be very, very optimistic to assume that will continue.

Sometimes I get tired of going to the same Vistana resorts all the time and occasionally want to do some II trading. We were very happy with trading a lock-off for a 2 BR at Marriott World Center at Disney last year. The change was refreshing.

I think you have all the elements to make a decision but lot depends on future inventory and this is hard to predict. Personally I would not decide right away, we are still far from the deadline to bank SOs. You can wait and see what you can get in Interval and if not, you can bank the SOs.

Staroptions are a sure thing. You take your chances with II- you lucked out this year getting both MKO and Nanea consecutively.
I think you should try for II ONLY if:
- you can definitely go offseason, like Sept-Nov.
- you are completely flexible on dates and will take whatever II has available.

Heckp,
Aiming for September you should be able to exchange into Hawaii. Can you get by with 1-BR? I only ask because WKV's smaller 1-BR exchanges into a 1-BR fairly easily, but you can always ask for a 2-BR, as well. We were confirmed last Sept. for this October (we deposited early in 2018 after pre-paying our MF). Since you also own SDO, you can always deposit one side of your WKV ownership early (so you are higher up in the queue...) and make an SO reservation later at 8 months out as a back up plan if necessary. I deposited a 1BR WKORVN IV unit with II back in 2018 rather than depositing the options and have regretted it ever since. Every time I look in II (which I must admit is not very often) I'm disappointed with what's on offer (except Vistana properties that I could have gotten using SO). When I do see something that's where we'd like to go in a time frame we can go it's more often than not an AI property that I don't want to pay for. We have to use it this year though so might just 'wing it' and go somewhere totally unplanned/not previously thought of.

Setup an ongoing search request if you haven’t. What you normally see online are the leftovers. Since you have to use your deposit this year, make a broad request (various resorts and date ranges spanning months if possible).

I agree with the others. Exchanging is always risky.
If you decide to deposit your week with II, have a backup plan if your fail to get your first choice. Good Luck
