This exact situation just happened to me. I was expecting to be charged for a couple of months but was surprised to be charged 5 months. It wasn’t an issue for me but I can see where it would be a big problem for low income people. I paid the 5 months with a cashback credit card which I pay off monthly so I figure I actually come out a little ahead.

Medicare is no free lunch. Between my Part B premium; the Part B surcharge because of my income; my Medicare Suplement; my Part D premium; and my Part D surcharge because of my income I spend about $5,000 a year for coverage. Granted I could get by for less with an Advantage Plan but I like the freedom of Traditional Medicare...

Note: I am not complaining. I am very happy with the coverage and flexibility what I have gives me...
