Tired of Wyndham timeshare sales people frequently lying and misrepresenting things in order to make a sale.

We have a large number of Wyndham timeshare points, but I am so tired of constantly being lied to by the Wyndham sales people. This happened to us most recently in January, but we didn't learn of all the lies until just after the rescission period had ended. We tried to rescind, but the "investigation," which took over 3 months, supposedly didn't show that the salesman had lied to us. We should have read the papers we signed very carefully before we signed them! Wyndham just wears you down with their B.S.! They also keep you there for much more time than the 90 minutes they tell you it will take. Anyway, anyone else out there as disgusted with Wyndham's sales practices as I am? I would love to hear from you to see if there is anything that we can do.

The only thing you can do is default on it.

Here is my advice. First, if you don't go, they can't lie to you. Second. If you choose to go to a sales presentation, you commit to a certain length of time. When your presentation starts, set a timer on your phone, and when the alarm goes off, you are free to get up and leave. I go to all the presentations I can, cause I get good money from them. Make it clear you are not buying, 9 out of 10 times they send you away early. I can get a bit combative with them sometimes, but more lately we kill them with kindness, get our gift and go!! It can be fun!!

It's an old story and has been discussed here many times, and it's shame. Personally, I don't expect them to stop this as I don't believe they could sell many contracts if they had to tell the truth about everything. I hope you can afford whatever you signed up for, and if you can, after you learn how to best use it you will probably come to like the overall system. Just not the purchasing system.

They way salespersons act has been going on too long and so persistent it can only be part of the Wyndham Destinations Corporate Culture. With all the sales staff being laid off this would be a good time for Wyndham Destinations to develop a new sales culture but I doubt that they will.

Are they laid off or furloughed?

Out of 7 Wyndham defaults as reported on TUG, 2 got reported for the credit agencies.

If you make the hard decision to default, please kindly let us know if your credit got affected. It would help tuggers in similar situations moving forward.

Thanks @dgalati for the shout out.

I have seen one person say Wyndham allowed them to default on the loan without taking back all of the contracts in the account, including those that have already been paid for but I believe in general if you default on the most recent contract, you will lose all access to all of the points in your account.

I don’t think it is just a Wyndham. It unfortunately seems to be the culture of timeshare sales (excepting Disney). I personally think if they told the truth they would get fewer people buying for the wrong reasons, fewer owners developing negative opinions of their purchase, and fewer defaults - which in the end will help with value of product and probably sales. Instead the industry is stuck with the reputation of being pushy and dishonest with a lot of upset owners. This doesn’t work for everyone.

We have had some very honest sales people - but they were gone within a few months. And we had a real problem with a BG one and were later told he had been let go (aka canned), but low and behold he showed up at an owner update at another property. He had just been transferred - heard his Dad was high up. We have also had some pushy ones at Wyndham as well. Wanted us to leave early without gift when they found out we weren’t buying. We said “no” as we had been talked into presentation by their staff in lobby and had scheduled around the presentation time. Not to mention we had already spent 30 minutes of our time.

You should just enjoy your Wyndham ownership and the resorts without going to the owner updates...ooops...sales meetings.

You can return a contract to Wyndham via Ovations if it is paid for and you have owned it for 12 months.

Good luck, and I hope that you don't take the drastic option to default. At least call the Owner Cares line to see if they can help you offload it.

I truly wish that Wyndham would let you buy points online--they could even market their "distressed" properties this way. OR that we could buy with a dedicated salesperson whether in person or over the phone. There are a couple whom I've meet that I would like to work with again. But most are not as informed as savvy owners and some really don't know how the resort system works.

Why do you continue to buy developer points?

If sales stopped selling this way profits would drop like a lead zeppelin.. Its a proven sales strategy that has been very effective. The "Investigations" are like having a fox in the hen house. Just remember read before you sign.
