What happens when a Timeshare company makes a mistake? There is a lot of negative news about the sales process. But it doesn't have to be that way. Especially if you are your own advocate for getting what you originally bargained for. This goes for the sales presentation through staying in units.

In this Video, I will talk about my personal experiences with issues that have come up with my timeshare companies... I will provide two examples of Club Wyndham and two with Hilton Grand Vacations. These are the two timeshares where I own the most and probably for a reason... Both of these organizations have stepped forward and fixed problems.

It soulds like your 2nd HGVC example is Kingsland. I had the worst experience with this location as a Elite owner. I had a standard 2 BR and it took them to 530 pm before they even could get my room to me. And they were pissy about it. Yet while I was standing there waiting they managed to be courteous and check in everyone else in the line in the next 1.5 hours. So how is it possible that the Standard 2 BR I was given had to wait that long. I didn't request anything specific. I even told them I could be given a different room location. No help, they just wanted to give me attitude and make me wait. I have no idea, I was pleasant at the time I asked. I was only displeased after watching what happened over the next 1.5 hr period.

You are correct... It was Kingsland...

That is so odd to have such a completely opposite experience... I am also an owner there, so possibly it was done for that reason... I think my issue got changed not by the checkin staff but by someone who job it is to schedule rooms.

I think it is a very different matter at checkin... In general I have had good success... But I do find the one area all timeshares could improve in is getting back to people when rooms are ready... I've probably asked 10 times in the last year if my room was ready instead of waiting for them to text me.... I usually ask every hour... If it is after 5 and my room is not ready, I ask for a free drink... If they are an hour late I feel they owe me something.

Keep in mind this is not a hotel and the rooms likely are preassigned with them wanting to give the best rooms possible to the loyalty tier customers.

Last weekend I went to check into a JW Marriott hotel in Rio de Janeiro (toughest work trip ever! :p). I’m platinum with Marriott and they informed me that I had been upgraded to a 1BR suite unit; however, the previous guest had a late checkout and the room would be available in one hour (around 6 pm). I could accept the upgrade and use the lounge while waiting or I could immediately get a standard room which was available.

We had similar, but the opposite. We could take the upgrade and not get a late checkout the next day or get a regular room and get a 4pm checkout. Sometimes the late checkout is more important than a better room.

I offered to take a different room that was ready. They were NOT willing to do that, but preceeded to check in about 40 other parties in the 1.5 hour stretch. I am sure at least 1 of those was a same style 2 BR that I had, since at least a 1/4 of the resort has that style of room.

If the rooms was so great that they had to wait to give it to me, I would disagree, as there are only a few buildings where PLUS units, which I booked, are actually on the first floor. That is what I got.

I got a better room and service here when I checked in with an RCI exchange, than I did with an HGVC Elite member booking. Just my experience, likely not most others people's experience at KL resort.
